Tsubasa, the title character, is a boy who was destined to become a born soccer player. His name translates to “Big Sky Wings”. His love and dedication towards the game are​ truly great. With his cheerful and positive personality, he overcomes many hardships in his quest to become a world-class star player. He made many friends everywhere he goes; even some ill-tempered players are fascinated by his friendliness. All his shots were powerful and his techniques are unique and were impossible to follow. 


The first 33 episodes are a summary of the previous series. In the first new episodes a new character, Shingo Aoi, (playing in Italy) is introduced. After that the world cup begins, this time with extraordinary, new countries like Sweden, Thailand or Uzbekistan. Unfortunately the Anime ends in the middle of the world cup after the match Japan-Uzbekistan.

The first Captain Tsubasa movie is about a match between an "All Europe Boy Soccer Team" and an "All Japan Boy Soccer Team" and takes place at the end of the first TV series. When the Japanese team arrives in Europe they meet incredible players with skills and strength they never had to face before. Shortly after the beginning of the match the Tachibana brothers shoot a goal with their "acrobatic soccer", but the Europeans have a supreme organisation and their legendary captain Karl-Heinz Schneider from Germany seems to be undefeatable. For Wakashimazu is totally overcharged with Schneider, the injured goalkeeper genius Wakabayashi takes his place and manages to stop Schneider's "fire shots". After that Japan finally manages to win the match 3:2.

Shin CT takes place at the U-16 world cup in France. After some friendly matches in Germany, Japan defeats one opponent after another and finally reaches the final round against Germany. After hard matches against Italian and French top players, the German team seems to be even more supreme. The giant goal keeper Moeller, the all round ace Kalz and Europe's best player and forward Schneider offer the Japanese team an extremely hard match, but in the end Japan wins 3:2.

11-year-old Tsubasa Ohzora transfers to his new school where he quickly becomes the star of the school's soccer team. His Brazilian coach, Roberto Hongo, notices the potential of the young athlete and soon offers him a chance to come with him to Brazil. Young Tsubasa trains more and more and is with each passing game more confident in his abilities. Old enemies become his friends and the World Cup seems closer and closer for him.

Enthusiastic soccer-loving youngster Shingo Aoi, whom Tsubasa once played against while in the high school national championships, leaves Japan to play soccer in Italy, where he hopes to play for a major Italian professional team. After arriving in Italy, however, Shingo gets tricked by a man who gives him fraudulent promises of getting him selected for an Italian team, but after Shingo is taken to a badly-furnished field, the man runs away, stealing all his money in the process. Shingo realizes that he is swindled, and tries hard to get his money back, doing such jobs as shoe shining, and his enthusiastic attitude catches the eye of one of the coaches of one of the local teams, Inter Milan, who sign him to play for their squad as an attacking midfielder.

The story takes place just before the original Nankatsu vs Shutetsu match that took place at the beginning of Kids' Dream. As such, the story is considered part of the canon of the regular series, taking place between the events that occur in chapter 4 "The great responsibility of the football club" of the 1981 manga.

This was the root of everything, the debut work of Takahashi sensei, a nostalgic memory. The story of Genzo Wakabayashi and a boy named Tsubasa Taro. 

The third Captain Tsubasa movie is basically about a training match of the All Japan Boy Soccer Team, but most of the time you see flashbacks of former matches, for instance the final match Nankatsu vs. Toho or when Wakabayashi challenges team captains of different sports.

Chicago native Erica Mendez is a longtime anime and video game fan who put in the work and became a voice actress.
