Yukina Himeragi is the female protagonist of the series. She is an attack mage, or in the Lion King Organization, a Sword Shaman, who is sent by the Lion King Organization to observe the Fourth Primogenitor, Kojou Akatsuki. As she's appointed to observe him, she became a middle-school student studying in Saikai Academy who follows him everywhere and is also ordered to kill him if he becomes too powerful and insane to control himself. ~!She is also the first blood mate of Kojou, and thus being the first, her blood smell is always associated with Kojou's own smell, which has been pointed out many times by other characters who could smell blood, probably due to her blood interbreeding with Kojou's as she was the one who activated Kojou's first 'real' vampiric act. Also, unknown to her, she was intended and prepared by the Lion King Organization to be his lover.!~

The Fourth Primogenitor—That's the world's strongest vampire that should only exist in legends. Accompanied by twelve Kenjuu and spreading calamity, this phantom vampire appeared in Japan. For the observation and obliteration of this Fourth Primogenitor, the government and Lion King decided to dispatch an attack mage known as a Sword Shaman. However, for some reason, the one chosen for the observation was a apprentice Sword Shaman girl, Himegari Yukina. Wielding the strongest anti-primogenitor spirit spear, Yukina arrived at Demon District, Itogami City. On September 1, 2016, Office Osawa announced that Taneda would put her career on hiatus to focus on treatment for her throat, various roles she done were recast during this time such as Erina Nakiri from Food Wars who was replaced by Hisako Kanemoto from Season 3 and onwards.

On August 4, 2017, Office Osawa announced that her treatment was successful and she would gradually return to voice acting.

Kojou and Yukina are on their way to school as usual when they find La Folia being chased by someone. Yukina crosses blades with the enormous man who's pursuing her, but before the fight can escalate further, La Folia makes a shocking comment: "Father, this is the Fourth Progenitor, Akatsuki Kojou... my first!" La Folia's father, Lucas, had told her to decide who she wished to marry, so she declares that Kojou is her choice. Lucas refuses to accept this, but then La Folia's mother, Polifonia, invites Kojou and Yukina to a party so they can all talk in more detail. When they arrive at the party, they discover that Asagi, Yaze, Nagisa, and Sayaka have been invited as well, due to their connections with Kojou.
