Edward "Fullmetal Alchemist" Elric is a young alchemical prodigy. He is the youngest State Alchemist ever to be recognized by the Amestris State Military, having received the title at the age of 12. Ed's primary motivation throughout the series is to return his younger brother, Alphonse, to his original body, which was lost in a failed human transmutation. Edward, despite his occasional bouts of immaturity, is a selfless boy who gains a reputation as a "hero of the people" throughout his youth. Notably, he doesn't seem concerned about returning his own arm and leg, instead focusing entirely on Al's suffering.

Edward is small for his age, standing at only 149 cm (4'11"), however his body is that of an experienced martial artist, with noticeable muscles and a wealth of agility. Although he lacks both his right arm and left leg, Ed's ability to fight is not impaired, and is in fact improved, as he will often use alchemy to cause his metal arm to partly transform into a blade or shield. His heavy automail limbs are considered by him to be the very best in Amestris. They were made by his childhood friend, Winry Rockbell, and she is constantly working on them. He is able to think quickly, even in desperate situations, though can still be frightened into paralysis. These qualities, combined with his alchemical powers and physical strength, make him a formidable fighter.

The rules of alchemy state that to gain something, one must lose something of equal value. Alchemy is the process of taking apart and reconstructing an object into a different entity, with the rules of alchemy to govern this procedure. However, there exists an object that can bring any alchemist above these rules, the object known as the Philosopher's Stone. The young Edward Elric is a particularly talented alchemist who through an accident years back lost his younger brother Alphonse and one of his legs. Sacrificing one of his arms as well, he used alchemy to bind his brother's soul to a suit of armor. This lead to the beginning of their journey to restore their bodies, in search for the legendary Philosopher's Stone.

Victor Joseph Mignogna was born in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. He was always interested in drama, film, music,acting, and majored in Film in college. Vic spent approximately ten years acting in independent films and composing, transposing and producing music for ad agencies, TV series, and movies. 

In 1998, through a connection from a work associate at the time, Vic made his debut as Vega in "Street Fighter 2" under ADV Films. Vic enjoyed the anime dubbing experience and continued working for ADV. Soon, he landed his first main character role as Gawl in "Generator Gawl". Over time, Vic also began working for FUNimation Entertainment, and moved from Houston, Texas to Los Angeles, California to continue work there in late 2008. In February 2019, studios Funimation and Rooster Teeth cut ties with Mignogna after a number of sexual harassment allegations surfaced. Mignogna has denied the allegations and filed a lawsuit against Funimation and several individuals in April 2019 alleging defamation and tortious interference, however, the case was dismissed on October 2019 and he was ordered by the court to pay the defendants' legal fees. Mignogna lost his appeals from Funimation and their actors in 2022.

Since then, his acting career has relatively stalled, though he remains active on social media and continues to attend fan conventions. He founded dubbing studio "AM Studios" in partnership with the Anime Matsuri convention.

Vic has continued his music career, releasing five albums, Selah (original piano music), Metafiction (original music, including the anime-related songs Nothing I Won't Give [Fullmetal Alchemist]) and Soldier A, saluting the generic soldiers of anime), If These Walls Could Talk (original music), a Christmas album (including 2 original songs), and Selah II (the sequel to Selah, also original piano compositions). His sixth album, which is a remix album, remixing some of his original songs and some popular songs, is set to be released in February of 2010. This album also contains Vic's English version of the Brothers Theme from "Fullmetal Alchemist" and the English version of the "D.N.Angel" opening theme, True Light, both of which are licensed.

Vic has now appeared in approximately 150 anime series and video games, and has sung many English dub theme songs, most notably in the FUNimation dub of "One Piece". He is best known for his roles as Edward Elric from "Fullmetal Alchemist", Tamaki Suoh from "Ouran High School Host Club", Broly from "Dragon Ball Z", Fai D. Flowrite from "Tsubasa Chronicle", Zero Kiryu from "Vampire Knight", Spirit (Death Scythe) from "Soul Eater", Dark Mousy from "D.N.Angel", Kurz Weber from "Full Metal Panic", and Ikkaku Madarame from "Bleach". Alchemy is bound by this Law of Equivalent Exchange—something the young brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric only realize after attempting human transmutation: the one forbidden act of alchemy. 1. The Blind Alchemist (盲目の錬金術師, Moumoku no Renkinjutsushi) 
Based on a side story of the Fullmetal Alchemist manga published in the Fullmetal Alchemist Perfect Guidebook (2003). It's about a blind alchemist named Jude, who serves the Humbergang family. He once violated the taboo of Alchemy. 
 
2. Simple People (シンプルな人々, Simple na Hitobito) 
A story about Riza (why she let her hair grow longer) and Winry (why she had her ears pierced and how she got her earrings). 
 
3. The Tale of Teacher (師匠物語, Sensei Monogatari) 
Based on a side story of the Fullmetal Alchemist manga, the third OVA is about Edward and Alphonse's teacher, Izumi Curtis. The story is compiled of two parts. The first part shows how Izumi survived in Mt. Briggs to become an apprentice of a renowned alchemist. The second part shows how Izumi and Sig met and their love at first sight. 
 
4. Yet Another Man's Battlefield (それもまた彼の戦場, Sore mo mata Kare no Senjou) 
The story centres around Roy, aged 18, in a military boot camp, how he met an Ishbalan recruit named Heathcliffe Arbor, how he became a friendly rival to Hughes.

A fugitive alchemist with mysterious abilities leads the Elric brothers to a distant valley of slums inhabited by the Milos, a proud people struggling against bureaucratic exploitation. To mark the July 2 opening of the Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos film, the Pia Eiga Seikatsu website posted an exclusive video "interview" with the stars of the film, Edward and Alphonse Elric (as voiced by Romi Park and Rie Kugimiya, respectively). In keeping with the spirit of Hiromu Arakawa's original manga and the two television anime, the interviewer has trouble early on in figuring out who the "Fullmetal Alchemist" is. (The interview has cameos by the other stars of the anime.) Also includes 3 "Study" sessions with "Professor" Mustang, teaching Winry and Hawkeye about Creta and Milos.
