[Tohru's](https://anilist.co/character/207) mother: When she was young, Kyoko caused trouble and cut classes, and was disowned by her parents following a gang fight. She hated her family, as her father felt she wasn't needed in the world and her mother only cared about the appearance of the family. She was also the leader of an all-female suicide gang. In this she was called 'The Red Butterfly', the name originating from the legend of how the tail lights on her motorcycle danced like a bright red butterfly when she rode at night. However, Kyoko later moved on and got a job.

At some point, Kyoko fell in love with a student teacher named [Katsuya Honda](https://anilist.co/character/9230), which contributed to her leaving her gang. After she was beaten by her gang and disowned by her parents, he stood up for her and proposed to her. They shortly married and had a daughter, Tohru. Katsuya became a positive influence in her life, and they worked through difficulties in a joint effort. ~!When he died from illness, however, Kyoko descended into a deep, almost depression-like sadness, neglected Tohru, and almost committed suicide by throwing herself into the sea, thinking she could go meet Katsuya (Kyoko had never seen the ocean before, so Katsuya took her one day). Just as she was about to jump however, Kyoko came to her senses as she saw a girl and her mother by the seaside; she came back home and found little Tohru waiting for her return at the door, similar to how Katsuya greeted her. Kyoko then vowed to never again disregard Tohru for whatever reason; she raised Tohru by herself, not to mention the care she offered Arisa Uotani and Saki Hanajima, Tohru's best friends.!~

When Tohru disappeared one day as a young child Kyoko was in hysterics, even going so far as to threaten the police if they did not find her. After she was eventually found by Yuki Sohma, who had heard Kyoko's description of Tohru and lead the confused girl home, Kyoko was overjoyed.    

Tohru Honda is 16 year old orphaned girl who gets invited to live in the house of her classmate, the handsome boy Sohma Yuki, and his cousins, 16 year old Kyo and 27 year old Shigure. However, these young men and parts of the rest of their family (both close and distant) hold a curse; if they are hugged by the opposite gender, they transform into animals of the Chinese Zodiac. Everyday is an adventure for sweet Tohru, as she gets to know everyone in the large family better (especially Yuki and Kyo), in both common and bizarre situations. But, the Sohma Family curse is certainly no laughing matter... it also holds horrible cruelty and heartbreak.

A year has passed since Tohru Honda began living in the Souma residence, and she has since created stronger relationships with its inhabitants Shigure, Kyou, and Yuki. She has also grown closer to the rest of the Souma family and has become familiar with their ancestral secret, having helped them with many of their personal issues. The closer Tohru gets, however, the more she begins to realize that their secret holds a darker truth than she first presumed. 

Summer is approaching and Tohru is invited to spend her days with the Soumas, mainly Kyou and Yuki. Tohru wishes for an easy-going vacation, but her close relationships with the two boys and the rest of the Soumas may prove to cause trouble. As they grow more intimate, their carefree time together is hindered by older hardships and feelings from the past that begin to resurface. The Eternal Banquet also dawns on the members of the zodiac, and they must tend to their duties alongside the unnerving head of the family, Akito Souma. 

With the banquet approaching and a plethora of feelings to be solved, will Tohru's life with the Soumas remain peaceful, or will she find herself in a situation from which she cannot escape?
