A witch most famously known as the Witch of Aurora, based off her ancient Aurora attribute. She was formerly a conscript member of Valhalla before becoming the first enrolled witch in the Anti-Magic Academy where she joined the 35th Test Platoon. 

Mari is a selfless girl whose only reason in joining Valhalla was so that she could safeguard the children she grew up with in an orphanage in the outskirts of town. Her sense of justice is strong but her motivation mostly comes from her affection towards Takeru Kusanagi, often competing with others and complaining how she never gets any of her romantics "flags" raised. However, over time she begins to cherish her teammates as well.

Mari's prodigious magic ability makes her fairly confident in her abilities and she carries herself with a proud demeanor. Due to comparatively small chest however, she is frequently teased by her teammates and is at great odds with fellow platoon member Ouka Ootori, who embodies the two things Mari can't stand the most: having a large chest and, more importantly, despising magic.

Set in a world where witches run havoc, the military decides to shift from using sword to utilizing guns to neutralize magical threats. Takeru Kusunagi, who can’t use guns and continues to fight with a sword, is relegated to the 35th Test Platoon, a motley group who can’t cooperate. After graduating from high school, Kanae enrolled at the Amusement Media Academy, a vocational school for voice actors and artists, and graduated in 2007. Prior to graduating she was a member of two voice acting groups called Koetchi (こえっち) and Rirachitchi (りらちっち) before both groups disbanded in December 2005 and January 28, 2007 respectively.

Her first major role came in 2007 when she played the lead heroine, Amu Hinamori, from the anime Shugo Chara!. The show became a hit and Kanae was praised by critics. Since then, she has voiced Amu in other Shugo Chara! franchises including radio serials, drama CDs and video games.  

She and fellow voice actress Aki Toyosaki are good friends who worked together on several anime including Shugo Chara!, To Love-Ru, The World God Only Knows, Hanasaku Iroha and Toaru Kagaku no Railgun (both also hosted the Toaru Kagaku no Railgun web radio show, Radio no Railgun). 

She was also nominated for "Best Rookie Voice Actress," at the 4th Seiyuu Awards.  

In January 1st, 2024, she announced on both her blog and Twitter account that she got married to a man from outside the entertainment industry.
