Kamon Nandaba is Naota&#039;s father, a former pop culture journalist working as a freelance writer, with his own trashy tabloid: &quot;Kamon-Mabase&quot; (the title is a pun on &quot;come-on mabase&quot;). He makes the most references to pop culture: EVA, &quot;Monkey-sensei&quot; (referring to the creator of the series Lupin III), Hamtaro, Mobile Suit Gundam, and MTV to name a few. Kamon has taken a liking to Haruko, but she only wants to use him as an N.O. Portal. In the fourth episode, Naota discovers that Haruko tried to use him but &quot;his head didn&#039;t work&quot; and that she had left a robot replacement to putter around the house. The real Kamon is found dead in a cabinet but is brought back to life by being hydrated in a small bathtub. Haruko&#039;s true intentions of coming to Mabase are revealed through her interactions with Kamon. After realizing that his head didn&#039;t open the N.O. portal, she discards him and returns to using Naota, saying &quot;you&#039;re the only one who works&quot;. Like the other adults in FLCL, Kamon is extremely immature, normally more so than the other adults. But he shows a surprising amount of seriousness and thoughtfulness at some points in the anime

Naota is a detached sixth grader afflicted by the pangs of puberty. He's fooling around with his brother's ex-girlfriend when a crazed girl on a motor scooter runs him over, brains him with a bass guitar, and moves into his house. This pink-haired girl, Haruko - who claims she's an alien - hurls Naota into the middle of a mega-corporation's secret agenda. Oh, and now giant battling robots shoot from his skull. Mix in mind-bending animation and tunes that echo through your cerebellum to top off the trip that will have you falling hard for FLCL.

Naota is a normal Japanese 6th grade boy but when his older brother leaves for America to play baseball, his brother leaves his 17 year old girlfriend Mamimi behind. Mamimi is sending mixed signals and advances to Naota, and he doesn't know what to do about her. But to make matters worse, Naota's world is totally turned upside down when he is run over by a woman on a Vespa. During their first encounter, she hits him over the head with her guitar, which then causes a horn to grow out of his forehead. She calls herself "Haruko" and her presence changes Naota's life to even further insanity.
