A 14-year-old girl whose life changes when she encounters the Puella Magi Homura and the familiar Kyuubey, who offers to transform her into a Puella Magi herself. She sees herself as a person without special qualities or talents, and after seeing Mami fighting against witches, wants to be a wonderful and cool Puella Magi like her. She is a rather selfless girl who wishes to be a magical girl simply so that she can help others. She allegedly has a large amount of magical potential within her. 

Madoka's heavily pink character design evokes a sense of child-like innocence and femininity. Her age and naive attitude is further implied with her pigtail haircut. Her immaturity is exemplified with props several times, such as when she brought an impractical sketchbook to a witch hunt, which is something you'd expect a child to do.

One night, 14-year-old Madoka Kaname has a terrible nightmare - against the backdrop of a devastated city, she witnesses a girl fight a losing battle against a dreadful being lingering above, while a cat-like magical creature tells Madoka the only way to change such tragic outcome is for her to make a contract with him and become a magical girl. 
The next day, the teen's dream seemingly becomes reality as the girl she saw in her dream - Homura - arrives at Mitakihara Middle School as a transfer student, mysteriously warning Madoka to stay just the way she is; but when later on she and her best friend Sayaka encounter the same cat-like magical creature from her dream - who introduces himself as Kyubey - the pair discovers that magical girls are real, and what's more, they can choose to become one. All they must do is sign a contract with Kyubey and agree to take on the duty to fight abstract beings called 'witches' that spread despair to the human world, and in return, each one of them will be granted any single wish they desire. However, as Homura's omen suggests, there might be far more to becoming a magical girl than Madoka and Sayaka realize...

Aoi Yabusaki, better known by her stage name Aoi Yuuki, is a Japanese actress, voice actress and singer represented by Pro-Fit.

Yuuki entered the entertainment industry at the age of four. As a child, she acted in films and dramas. From 1999 to 2002, she made regular appearances on the variety shows Appare Sanma Dai-sensei and Yappari Sanma Dai-sensei which aired on Fuji TV. A short four-minute concept film that served as a surprise unveil at Studio SHAFT's 40th anniversary event in Winter 2015, Madogatari. Written and illustrated by PAPA, the series was originally released before the launch of the game as an informational strip, introducing prospective players to the gameplay and features of Magia Record. 
 
Since the game's release, the strip has continued in its 2nd season. While it still occassionally includes informational content, it is now mainly comedic in nature.

The 10th anniversary online event for the Mahou Shoujo Madoka☆Magica anime revealed that the franchise is getting a new anime film titled Mahou Shoujo Madoka☆Magica: Walpurgis no Kaiten. The film will be an official sequel to the Mahou Shoujo Madoka☆Magica: Hangyaku no Monogatari film that opened in October 2013. The tagline on the new film's visual reads, "Now, let's continue the story."
