After graduating from high school, Kanae enrolled at the Amusement Media Academy, a vocational school for voice actors and artists, and graduated in 2007. Prior to graduating she was a member of two voice acting groups called Koetchi (こえっち) and Rirachitchi (りらちっち) before both groups disbanded in December 2005 and January 28, 2007 respectively.

Her first major role came in 2007 when she played the lead heroine, Amu Hinamori, from the anime Shugo Chara!. The show became a hit and Kanae was praised by critics. Since then, she has voiced Amu in other Shugo Chara! franchises including radio serials, drama CDs and video games.  

She and fellow voice actress Aki Toyosaki are good friends who worked together on several anime including Shugo Chara!, To Love-Ru, The World God Only Knows, Hanasaku Iroha and Toaru Kagaku no Railgun (both also hosted the Toaru Kagaku no Railgun web radio show, Radio no Railgun). 

She was also nominated for "Best Rookie Voice Actress," at the 4th Seiyuu Awards.  

In January 1st, 2024, she announced on both her blog and Twitter account that she got married to a man from outside the entertainment industry.

An American voice actress, ADR director, and script writer affiliated with Funimation and Seraphim Digital/Sentai Filmworks.

Monica's father is from Pontevedra, Galicia, Spain, and when she was young, her family would often visit there. She would translate for her younger brother some of the European Spanish-dubbed cartoons which included anime like Doraemon and Dragon Ball Z, often imitating the various characters. Monica studied ballet, tap, and jazz, but transitioned to musical theater when was 12. She studied acting through high school as well as college at the University of Houston. She's cited voice actor inspirations from The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Beavis and Butt-head. She was working on a theater show with Jason Douglas, who suggested she audition for ADV Films. Her first voice-over role was a walla in the 1999 dub of Martian Successor Nadesico.

In the film's story, Uranohoshi Girls' High School's idol group Aqours has won the final Love Live! contest. While preparing to enroll at a new school, the first- and second-year students encounter unexpected trouble. Also, after heading for a graduation trip, the third-year students go missing. As they are separated, the Aqours members appreciate the weight of their togetherness for the first time. In order to move forward, they must decide how to react to their new situations.

After failing in the preliminary tournament of the previous Love Live, the members of Aqours have rededicated themselves to succeeding both as idols and as saviors of their school, making sure their home will never be taken away. But Mari learns some terrible news about their upcoming school open house event and it seems like all of their efforts will be for naught. Chika and her friends must find some way to preserve their school and carry on as idols. The story reimagines Yoshiko Tsushima, the school idol afflicted with chuunibyou (adolescent delusions of grandeur), as a magical girl. The story is set in Numazu, a scenic harbor town surrounded by the sea and mountains. Ever since she was little, the girl Yohane has never fit in, and has always felt apart from everyone in town. Her aspirations and true place in this world lie elsewhere. The story follows this girl who can't follow rules as she journeys into the mysterious world.
