Rive Shindou is the father of Chrono Shindou, elder brother of Mikuru Shindou and husband to Tokimi Shindou. He's also one of the co-founders of FIVA and assisted Ryuzu Myoujin in bringing Gear Chronicle to Earth. In between the events of Cardfight!! Vanguard Movie: Neon Messiah and G, Kouji Ibuki encountered Rive. After a Cardfight he told Ibuki about the Depend Cards and Ryuzu's goal. He also entrusted him with the Gear Chronicle clan, as well as the mission of stopping Ryuzu's ambition. Additionally, he instructed Ibuki to one day give Chrono the Gear Chronicle deck and the Depend Cards but also to keep it secret that he's still alive so his family won't be involved in the conflict. 

Rive Shindou is also a main character in Cardfight!! Vanguard: Shinemon Arc. Shinemon Nitta looks up to Rive as a mentor, since Rive is an amazing cardfighter. However, Rive tends to run away from serious situations, not wanting to deal with much responsibility.

10 years before the reunion of Aichi Sendou and Toshiki Kai, the card shop run by the Tokura family "Card Capital" was going out of business. Then came the attempt to take over the store by Esuka Hibino, the owner of a major card shop.
 
In order to protect Card Capital, Shinemon Nitta stands up as the "Self-proclaimed Manager!"
