Also known as Nodame, which is a portmanteau of her family name and the first mora of her given name. Noda is, at the start of the series, a twenty-year-old free-spirited second-year music student. She is depicted as a complete slob: her cooking and cleaning skills are atrocious to the point of having mushrooms growing on her clothes and poisoning anyone who dares to eat her food (yet she&#039;s never been poisoned). However she is an incredibly talented pianist who primarily plays by ear, in a cantabile style. In love with Chiaki, she follows him around constantly, claiming to be his &quot;wife,&quot; and leans on him to help her get through sticky situations. She sometimes compulsively needs to play the piano, neglecting everything in order to do it. As well as that, she seems to enjoy childish manga and movies. She is constantly hungry, and is fed dinners by Chiaki; she also steals many lunches from her fellow friend, Maki. Nodame has a tendency to speak cryptically (sometimes she doesn&#039;t even understand herself), often refers to herself in the third person and uses nonsense words like mukya and gyabo.    Nodame is initially very dependent on Chiaki in terms of ambition - she has little intention of becoming a professional pianist, despite her remarkable talent, and wants to become a kindergarten teacher, though many feel she is too reckless and lacks the appropriate sensibility to be responsible with teaching children. Her piano style is considered to be completely haphazard, diverting from original intent at both dynamics, rhythms and even themes. Realizing that her current attitude towards music will eventually drive her apart from Chiaki, Nodame gradually develops the necessary drive to pursue music for her own sake. Her attitude towards music is largely due to an incident in the past where she was hurt by a teacher who demanded her to play music &quot;as it&#039;s written&quot;.    Nodame&#039;s character is based on a real-life counterpart with same name.

Shinichi Chiaki is a first class musician whose dream is to play among the elites in Europe. Coming from a distinguished family, he is an infamous perfectionist; not only is he highly critical of himself, but of others as well. The only thing stopping Chiaki from leaving for Europe is his fear of flying. As a result, he's grounded in Japan. 
During his 4th year at Japan's top music university, Chiaki happens to meet Noda Megumi; or as she refers to herself, Nodame. On the surface, she seems to be an unkempt girl with no direction in life. However, when Chiaki hears Nodame play the piano for the first time, he is in awe at the kind of music she plays. To Chiaki's dismay, Nodame moves into the apartment next to his and finds out that she is head over heels in love with him. 
Nodame Cantabile tells the story of Chiaki and Nodame, as they not only learn to deal with each other, but learn lessons from one another as they strive for the top of the musical world.

Catherine "Kate" Davis Higgins is a voice actress and singer. She was born in Charlottesville, Virginia. She is best known as the English voice of [Sakura Haruno](https://anilist.co/character/145/) on the hit anime series Naruto, and more recently Saber from the anime "Fate/Stay Night" as well as the ps2 port Fate/Realta Nua. As of 2010, she is now the official voice of Miles "Tails" Prower of the SEGA series Sonic the Hedgehog. Higgins earned a degree in music from Auburn University. She is a trained pianist who studied with the jazz pianist, Bob Richardson.

The series continues the relationship between two aspiring classical musicians, Megumi "Nodame" Noda and Shinichi Chiaki, as students and after graduation.

An anime-original story written by Ninomiya Tomoko, this is an extra episode that falls between the end of Nodame Cantabile (Finale) and Nodame Cantabile Opera-hen.  It's spring.  Nodame is getting very close to graduating from the Conservatoire and Chiaki is keeping himself busy professionally.

Having been given the opportunity to study in Paris, Noda accompanies Chiaki to Europe as he strives to become the accomplished conductor he always dreamt to be.

Tomoko Kaneda is a Japanese voice actress and radio personality. She had worked at Aoni Production for 11 years and had worked at freelance since April 2011 and it was announced to belong to Across Entertainment in August 2011. She graduated from Department of Architecture, Kanto Gakuin University. She is a member of the voice acting unit Drops, which included fellow voice actresses Mariko Kouda, Akemi Kanda, Ai Nonaka and Ryoko Shiraishi and of the voice acting unit SD-Children along with Miyu Matsuki.

Her casting is usually that of a young child, due to her high-pitched voice. It has been reported that her voice is capable of producing sounds at a frequency beyond that of human hearing. She says in her blog's introduction, "My voice hardly changes even if I breathe in the helium gas". On November 21, 2013 she announced her marriage to actor Wataru Mori. On July 13, 2017 she gave birth to her first child, a girl.
