Fakir is the Knight of the story, and works through life watching over Mytho to protect the Prince as planned. He is purposely cold and rude near the beginning of the series in an effort to focus solely on Mytho, and also tries to sabotage Princess Tutu to give back the Prince's heart pieces. While this was all an intention to protect his friend from the normal course of the story, by Mytho's wish to gain back his heart, his attitude is renewed.

His role is very clear in the tale, the Knight is supposed to face the terrible Raven in an effort to guard the Prince; however, he is meant to die without laying a hand upon the monster. Fakir goes out to prove himself that the ending doesn't have to be as so, and as such, is at a loss of what his purpose is afterwards.

In a fairy tale come to life, the clumsy, sweet, and gentle Ahiru (Japanese for 'duck') seems like an unlikely protagonist. In reality, Ahiru is just as magical as the talking cats and crocodiles that inhabit her town - for Ahiru really is a duck! Transformed by the mysterious Drosselmeyer into a human girl, Ahiru soon learns the reason for her existence. Using her magical egg-shaped pendant, Ahiru can transform into Princess Tutu - a beautiful and talented ballet dancer whose dances relieve people of the turmoil in their hearts. With her newfound ability, Ahiru accepts the challenge of collecting the lost shards of her prince's heart, for long ago he had shattered it in order to seal an evil raven away for all eternity. 
Princess Tutu is a tale of heroes and their struggle against fate. Their beliefs, their feelings, and ultimately their actions will determine whether this fairy tale can reach its "happily ever after." 
 
Princess Tutu aired in two parts. The first part included 13 25-minute-long episodes, while the second part consisted of 24 12-minute-long episodes with a 25-minute-long final episode for a total of 38 episodes.

A month prior, it was publicly disclosed that he had been married to a former voice actress for nearly 20 years, although the writer had allegedly not been aware of his marriage as they had been in a relationship for 10 years and intending to marry. On March 31, 2023, it was jointly announced with his talent agency "Intention" that they are ending their contract, as Sakurai requested to leave as a way of taking sole responsibility of his actions and for self-reflection.
