The title character, Maruko is a third-grade student raised in a relatively poor family of six. She is lazy, disorganized and usually late for school, in strong contrast with her neat, calm and tidy older sister (sixth-grader) who must share her room with her. Maruko, like many kids, tries to avoid homework and chores, and she takes advantage of her doting grandfather and squabbles with her sister. A small black cat, a pet of Dr. Briefs that is always seen sitting on his shoulder. "Tama", which is "Ball" in Japanese, is suggested to be a female, although nothing official has been stated on the cat's gender (In the English dub, however, Tama is female, referring to a quote by Dr. Briefs; "This is no ordinary cat! She's had 5 years experience!"). It is also suggested that Tama knows about how machines work and can be fixed, but the lack of speech would pose quite an issue.

Senritsu, known as Melody in the Viz Media translation, is a Music Hunter, named for her skill with instruments. Senritsu is a Music Hunter and is the kind and understanding member of Neon's bodyguards. She is always ready to listen to anyone's confessions and has the gift to make people open up to her. As Leorio notes, she is one of the very few characters who has made Kurapika open up to her.

Kirara  is the nekomata companion of Sango, the yōkai exterminator that hails from a mountain village of other exterminators. Kirara usually appears as a tiny and cute feline no larger than a kitten with cream-colored fur, black ears, various black markings, large red eyes, and two tails, but her true form is a large saber toothed tiger-like yōkai.

She is been kidnapped because her school&#039;s chairman wants to sell Midori&#039;s airship to build a new school. She can drive car and she is very rich. She has a weapon collection.

Mikan wasn&#039;t always named Mikan, before finding Tom, when he was born, he was abandoned with all his little brothers and sisters in a box, where an old man found them. He adopted Mikan and named him Tom, during his time with the old man, Mikan learned to talk and walk like a human, but also learned that not every human would accept or understand a talking cat.    Mikan is most of the time very cheerful and likes to tease Tom, but is also a very emotive character, displaying an artistic side, his tendency to get drunk and remember his beloved old man and a very insecure and tender side when dealing family love.

Altena is a ranking member of the ruling body which governs Soldats--an ancient, secret society whose power clandestinely reigns over the globe. Not much is known about Altena at the present, but there seems to be a lot of opposition to her motives within Soldats higher echelon.    The focus of Altena&#039;s efforts lies within a project known only as Le Grand Retour. While the full scope of the Le Grand Retour project remains clouded, it is believed to have something to do with the origin of Soldats and the original purpose of Noir. Should Altena succeed, it is believed that she would have the power to reshape Soldats in any way she sees fit. This prospect does not sit well with the other members of the Soldats hierarchy, but their ability to counter Altena&#039;s ambitions remains wanting to say the least.    While Altena may seem to be a gentle, motherly figure, this woman certainly possesses a dark side that is reflective in her philosophy that &quot;If love can kill people, hatred can save them.&quot; This belief is the driving force which governs all of her actions, and she has instilled this creed into Chloe, whom she raised alone within the archaic confines of the Manor.

The most mysterious of the Gung-Ho Guns. His portrayal in both the anime and manga are drastically different.    In the anime, Zazie uses the identity of a young boy named &quot;Beeb&quot; as a disguise. He can control sand-worms with a high-frequency device he wears on his head.    The anime never exactly gives a clear explanation as to what Zazie was. It can be theorized that Zazie was a malevolent entity that took control of the boy whenever it needed to, that he was in fact a much older man who only looked like a young boy, or that he was actually a child assassin driven to the brink of insanity by his association with the Guns.    In the manga...   ~!his body is controlled by a collective of group-minded insects. These insects are the original inhabitants of the planet Gunsmoke and have formed an alliance with Knives to see whether humans or Plants are better to co-exist with. The insects that form Zazie also seem to represent the planet&#039;s consciousness, as represented by the sandworms he can control as well (Zazie has been referred to as the &#039;leader of the sandworms&#039; by Knives). His body is destroyed by Hoppered for spying on him and Midvalley. Zazie later reappears in the body of a teenage girl. In Trigun Maximum 11 this body is destroyed as well after trying to implant an insect in Knives to control him. Zazie reappears one last time as an odd-looking man in disco-clothing in order to deliver his coin to Vash. It is revealed that these bodies are human, but are controlled by a small worm-like creature that lives inside it, similar to the one Zazie tried to implant in Knives. When the hive is destroyed by Knives, the man spits out the creature and has no memories of his time as host to Zazie.!~    His Gung-Ho Gun number is 12 in the manga, and 4 in the anime.
