Kaneda is a carefree gang-leader who boasts a custom-modified motorcycle. He and Tetsuo have been best friends since early childhood. He is brash and not above teasing Tetsuo despite feeling affection for him as a younger brother. Upon rescuing Kei, Kaneda becomes involved in the activities of her group of anti-government guerillas in hopes of locating Tetsuo.

He is seen as an ​example and prodigy by the ones who live together with him and is friends with Shiemi Moriyama, who calls him Yuki-chan.

An old friend and classmate of Kyohei who always defended him. He is found on the streets by Eiji, a Yakuza member. He takes Akio in and has a doctor convert him into a Cyberoid. He goes on a one man war against the Yakuza. Eiji agrees to a deal with the right-hand man of the Yakuza boss to kill Akio. Eiji fails and ends up being shot several times by an enraged Akio due his betrayal. He tells Kyohei what happened to him and how he became a Cyberoid. After killing off the Yakuza and the Boss, Akio battles Eiji now being converted to a Cyberoid. Akio kills Eiji though he dies in the process leaving Kyohei crying at the loss of his friend. Ever since he was young, Ichigo has been able to see spirits, to the point where he could not tell the living from the dead. Soon after, once a hollow appeared and threatened his family, he recklessly fought back against it, forcing Rukia to save him by taking the blow of it's attack. Seeing Ichigo's determination to protect his family, Rukia offered to temporarily turn him into a Soul Reaper by piercing his chest with her Zanpakutou and transferring half of her power to him. Ichigo goes through with it, allowing him to make short work of the Hollow, and forcing him to fulfill Rukia's role as a Soul Reaper until she can regain her powers.

Being stubborn, short-tempered, strong-willed, and impulsive, Ichigo often claims not to care about what other people think about him, and attempts to maintain a detached and "cool" image. He generally keeps his face set in a near-permanent scowl, with his eyebrows drawn together. His outspoken, hot-headed demeanor is a trait Ichigo himself has acknowledged, and if somebody picks a fight with him, he cannot help fighting back. Ichigo's resolve in battle can waver at times, which can impede his fighting prowess, and he tends to go into a state of depression and self-loathing when he loses a major fight or lets a friend down. Despite what he lets on, he is genuinely compassionate and empathetic towards others, and doesn't mind helping others when they become upset, or need the support. He is always willing to fight to protect those he cares for, no matter what it is he would be fighting against.

Sakura is a second year junior high school student whose life changed the day the &quot;Bludgeoning Angel&quot; Dokuro-chan appeared. From that day on, he went from the life of a normal boy to one filled with bloody clubbings by said angel. In the future, Sakura is apparently destined to create a technology that stops girls from aging after they reach the age of twelve years, which has led to Sakura gaining a reputation as a pedophile around his school. While not perverted by nature, Sakura still manages to get into tricky situations with Dokuro. He has a crush on his classmate and friend Shizuki Minakami, though he is too afraid to tell her, but soon he develops feelings for Dokuro despite the way she treats him.

Claude is a contractor who works for The Syndicate and was sent to capture Yin, appearing in Darker Than Black Gaiden.    ~!When Hei first meets Claude, he puts Hei and Yin under an illusion, so to them he looks like Amber. Yin notices this, and after seeing Hei talking with the woman, and later feeling distant from him, Yin makes use of her observation spirit that night. Although Hei had woken up and stopped her from doing anything drastic, Yin saw enough to be able to say that the woman was not Amber, but was indeed a Contractor. Realizing he was found out, Claude kidnaps Yin that night.   The next day, as Hei was checking out of the inn, he heard from the manager that the person who looked like Amber was actually a man. Realizing that the woman he had seen was an illusion, Hei ran back to his room only to find Yin gone. He was able to track down Yin in a warehouse. He was then attacked by the Amber look-a-like. Hei is saved when Claude suddenly turns the gun around and shoots himself in the head, with Yin&rsquo;s observation spirit appearing behind him. Hei was then able to kill most of the rest of Yin&rsquo;s captors and save her. Unbeknownst to him, the person who looked like Amber wasn&rsquo;t dead and instead talked to a certain dog Hei saw earlier about Yin&rsquo;s hastened evolution and how she will soon be uncontrollable by anyone, including Hei.   Claude&#039;s core ability is mind control. He can also control what people see, putting them under illusions. He was even able to trick Hei into thinking he was Amber. A young man who sells information for his own enjoyment. He claims to love the entire human race except for Shizuo Heiwajima, and exhibits said love by putting humans in often miserable conditions and observing their reactions.  

He attended Raira Academy with Shizuo, Shinra and Kadota. According to Shinra, Izaya and Shizuo hated each other with a passion almost from the point they met. In the novels Izaya framed Shizuo for crimes on several occasions. In the anime he puts Shizuo in constant problems, such as gangs attacking him daily up to framing him of crimes.  

He is a master of parkour, and also quite skilled with his flickblade (the blade he uses must be slightly opened before the mechanics of it springs opens the blade - a switchblade will open on its own after the user presses a switch) as he is implied to be the only one capable of leaving numerous cuts in Shizuo's bartender suit after a fight in the novels. In the anime, he shaves a gang member's head bald without him noticing it. He is also fluent in Russian, which is exhibited in the final episode and episode 13 when he speaks with Simon.  

Izaya has two younger sisters, Mairu and Kururi, who are twins and troublemakers. He claims to have grown up in a normal family whose only abnormal trait was their naming habits. He does not like his sisters and find them to be unlovable, saying that if even he can not like them, he expects no one else to ever be able to either.  

His name comes from a combination of the biblical Isaiah and Japanese for "the one who looks over the crowd."  

In the novels, Shinra is the only person that Izaya doesn't consider as one of his "humans." Rather, Izaya considers Shinra as his only friend (which is rather rare). Though it was hinted that he also cares for Saki, despite his manipulation towards her. It was stated that he was like her guardian. He seemed to be genuinely sad when Simon informed him that she left Ikebukuro with Kida.

~!In volume 9 of the novels, Izaya treats Shinra as his only friend, letting himself be seen as guilty and put on protective custody for "stabbing" Shinra, which was supposed to be Nakura's fault. It is stated that Izaya greatly envies Shinra because Shinra's standards were far departed from any other human's, even including Izaya's. He had always thought of himself as being in a position to observe humans and therefore standing on a higher pedestal than those around him. But unlike Izaya, Shinra was living in a different world in the real sense of the word.!~

Though somewhat of a celebrity, being the son of a savior, Renton feels uncomfortable being the son of Adroc Thurston. A character appearing only in the 35th episode of the anime. An alchemist Lust encountered years ago, Envy saw potential in him to advance their plans to make a Philosopher's Stone. After the Homunculi deliberately spread the Fossil Disease in his village, Lust gave him a Red Stone ring to use against the Fossil Disease. However, Lujon fell in love with Lust, and Lust began to feel the first stirrings of her humanity, as Lujon reminded her of her creator, Scar's brother. When they met again, Lust killed him to &quot;fix&quot; the mistake of getting him involved in the Homunculi's plans. Upon his death, everyone in the village fell to the disease and none were left alive.    Despite Gluttony's pleading her, Lust did not allow Gluttony to eat Lujon's body after his death.    In the English Dub he also mentions the Ishballan God, Ishballa, and when using Alchemy frequently prays to him.    He resembles Scar's brother from the manga.

Michael Garret is Wendy Garret's older brother and was her only remaining family member in Evergreen after her parents died. When they were younger, he cared very much for her, protecting her when their town of Evergreen was assaulted by bandits. He is later kidnapped by the Claw, and Wendy joins Van in order to rescue him. However, when she finally finds him, it proves out he no longer is kept with the Claw against his will. He reveals that he has joined forces with him in order to realize the Claw's dream of eradicating all sorrow on the planet by creating a new world.  Like his sister, he is usually kind and compassionate, but can be fiercely independent when he wants to. Although he has freely joined the Claw, he still has his doubts and struggles to rid himself of his suspicious feelings against the project he has joined, especially when a mutinous group attempts to rebel and they try to get Michael to join them. But in the end, he chooses to stay with the Claw and Fasalina, with whom he ends up sharing a deep bond.  Michael is one of the only member of The Original Seven along with Woo who is able to control an "Original Armor" without needing surgical implants embedded into his body. This is the main reason why the Claw chose him, and Michael later proves out to be a vital part of the Claw's plan.  He pilots the Original Seven Armor Saudade of Sunday, which was launched into space and destroyed two of the Original Seven satellites. There, he encounters Van and the two of them battle, with Van constantly reminding Michael about Wendy. Whether this is a diversion tactic or Van genuinely cares very much about Wendy, it enrages Michael and he blames Van in turn for making Wendy leave Evergreen. Their fight is interrupted by an explosion brought about by the moon and the liquid-state material surrounding it, but continues when they return to the Planet of Endless Illusion, where Van also continues to scold and taunt Michael for not being a good brother. In the end, Michael is defeated and Saudade destroyed.  In the penultimate episode, he and Wendy meet again, and when he tells her to step aside as he still has to complete his mission, she points his own gun towards him, answering that he's not the only one with a mission to complete. She ultimately shoots him in the arm when he keeps on going, using up the last bullet in the gun. Wendy begins to explain the negative effects of the Claw's plan, which only makes Michael even angrier. He then tries to strangle her out of rage, but Wendy is saved by Kameo biting Michael's hand. Even so, he still saves her from being crushed by falling debris, and the two siblings come to an understanding and part ways, with Michael leaving his gun with Wendy and advising her to follow her own path, while he follows his. Clair is the leader (Don) of the Leonelli crime family in the city of Judo. The title is known as Vampire, perhaps alluding to what a mafia does. His father, Lorenzo, wanted him to be his successor working as Chairman Vampire of Company Vita. The other members of the mafia seem loyal to Clair, but not out of respect; they often worry about invoking his wrath.

Clair is mentally unstable, brashly immature, and generally insane, often carrying around hand grenades. He is prone to wild, extremely violent and unpredictable behavior. Perhaps that has something to do with his strict, often times brutal, upbringing. Lorenzo would test his young son, not accepting him for who he was, in an effort to mold him to be the next Vampire. Clair's father could be abusive when he didn't succeed.

Growing up with an inferiority complex left Clair insensitive towards others (he calls society "trash") and a seething resentment towards his father. He is out to prove that he can lead the Leonelli family, despite what others believe.

Kazuya is an orphan. He was raised by his older brother, Kazuhiro, who attended Ryokuto academy. Hasukawa idolized his brother and wanted to enroll at Ryokuto to be more like him. At the start of the series, we see him enrolling into the school, realizing his dream, but he is very late due to a series of freak accidents. To make matters worse, Kazuhiro has just married Kazuya's first love, Sumire! Unable to live in the same house as the newly-weds, Kazuya moves into the dorms. Little does he know what terrors await him there! 

Chet and Addie dubbed the &quot;stupid couple&quot; by the village, they&#039;re a couple that have been madly in love with each other for the past few years.

Chet claims to have come from England on a research trip, only to then stay in the jungle once he laid eyes on Addie.

A running joke later in the series is that whenever Chet and Addie are together on screen, they&#039;re usually doing something that needs to be blurred out.

Fushimi often displays himself as a cool-headed, though lazy and bored individual. He gives off a listless attitude and seems unmotivated, but is in fact very competent. He prefers not to participate in most of his Clan's activities. However, he will cooperate if necessary with little to no arguments. At the same time, he would often disregard his associates and act out on his own. While focused on an objective, Fushimi is willing to use any method possible to make his tasks quicker and easier, such as drugging innocent civilians. He would even attack several former allies without any hesitation just to accomplish his goal, displaying additional traits of ruthlessness.   A sociopath by nature, Fushimi's personality is far more twisted then he leads others to believe. He is cruel, bloodthirsty, and occasionally sadistic. During battle, Fushimi often sports a wide grin and a tendency to laugh giddily about the dangerous event. He also displays more evident signs of arrogance and superiority towards his opponents. Fushimi often boasts about his strength and speaks to his opponents in a more mocking tone. Nevertheless, Fushimi retains a carefree attitude during battle and likes to make rude, though somewhat personal jokes.
