As a self-proclaimed "Protector of the Sea", he has a mutual respect for [Ika](https://anilist.co/character/20512), despite seeing her as a hassle. He has a strong crush on [Chizuru](https://anilist.co/character/34654) that she seems to not be aware of. He even keeps a picture of her as his phone's background image. Because of this crush, he seemingly can't refuse any request made by Chizuru.

Formerly of the US Army Combat Technology Research Unit. At the top of his class in both practical combat skill and book learning, he's the main test pilot for the XFJ Joint US-Japan TSF Development Project, and serves as a member of the project’s Argus Test Flight. His father is Japanese and his mother is American, but he grew up entirely in America and never visited Japan. When he was young, political friction between Japan and America made him the subject of anti-Japanese discrimination. He grew up to hate Japan, and develop a cold attitude that keeps others at bay. Argus often refer to him as "Top Gun". 

Despite his lack of actual combat experience as a 2nd Lieutenant of the US Army, Yuuya is extremely skilled; his role as a test pilot means that he has gained a wealth of experience in putting TSF through their paces and pushing them to their limit, he was viewed as top at every level as a pilot, though his personality left much to be desired, with arrogance and cold attitude towards others caused some to ostracize him and others to ignore him. These were the impetus for the bitter rivalry he has with Leon.

He is the captain of the Kendo Club and a self-styled modern-day samurai despite his proficiency with cellphones and computers.

Signal is the gatekeeper at the Kyrie Gate of the Bifrost Bridge, while Signales guards the Yuusari Gate of the Bifrost Bridge. Signal smokes a pipe and uses it to "confirm the identity" of whoever wants to cross the bridge. Signales uses the same method.  ~!Signal's former name was Camus. His other two brothers' names are Sein and Jean. Twelve years earlier, the triplets were Letter Bees. It was revealed in Chapter 38 (episode 14 of Reverse) that the triplets were on the government airship that crashed on the Day of Flicker. Signal was a replacement for Largo Lloyd who couldn't go on that day. The triplets were 3 of the 6 people that survived the crash. !~

First mentioned as a prominent 4-dan player, Kurata doesn&#039;t make an appearance until later in the story as a 6-dan. Despite being only in his early twenties, Kurata (together with Ogata 9-dan) is widely considered as one of Japan&#039;s best professionals and has been the challenger for multiple titles (although he has not win a single one). One of Kurata&#039;s most prominent abilities is his keen 6th sense, something he believe that above all else, will present solution to the problem. 

Although good-natured, Kurata is overbearingly confident and takes a liking to signing autographs, which he often adds would-have titles to his names and is fond of passing around to fans (or who he thinks his fan, like Hikaru - much to the boy&#039;s dismay). One of the rare successful Japanese players in international Go tournaments, Kurata is referred to as &quot;Japan&#039;s Ahn Tae-seon&quot;, another similarly famous young player in Korea (later selected as team manager for Korea representatives in the Hokuto cup). Ironically, Kurata holds a rivalry with Ahn Tae-seon in person after he lost to the Korean player in the Samsung cup&#039;s quarter final (more precisely, when Ahn Tae-seon amiably and rather bluntly asked him if he had been in a slump) and is particularly competitive when the other man is concerned.
