Itsuki is a Special Class Ghoul Investigator. He is the commander of the 11th Ward Special Countermeasures Unit and Chief of Division II.

Takao Hiyama is a teacher in Yuki's school and is the serial killer reported within its vicinity. Not much is known about Takao character-wise, since the man was only given four lines of dialogue in the series, all related with finding and being surprised by Yukiteru. He is the Third diary owner. His "Killer" diary records the location of his next intended victim. It is a handy diary if one knew the true identity of the other diary holders and wishes to take the offensive in the game, but it does little in the way of anything else.  Takao wears a heavy trenchcoat complete with a hat and mask that hides his identity when stalking prey, and carries a large machete as his weapon of choice.  He is named after Vulcan — roman god of blacksmithing.

He is a Spirit Detective who is tasked with protecting the Human World from various supernatural threats over the course of the series and his closest friends, as well as greatest allies, include Kuwabara, Kurama, Hiei, Keiko, Genkai, Koenma and Botan. He is also the de facto leader of Team Urameshi and the general person to look to when the going gets tough.

At the start of the series, Yusuke is an uncontrollable teenage delinquent/street fighter with little to no positive qualities to his character. Over the course of the series, he starts becoming a better person, changing into an almost altruistic defender of the Human World while he himself continues to become a powerful martial artist.

He is the main male character of the story and narrator of the series. He is a somewhat antisocial 17-year old high school student who gets higher than average grades and used to be on his school&rsquo;s track team.
