the main character of the series.  She is a very playful and easygoing woman who lives in the small village with the husband.  She is called "Mrs. Spoon" because she is always applying a golden teaspoon with bell with bell to the chest like the pendant.  She has a mysterious habit into her body unexpectedly becomes small, and she returns to former size unexpectedly.  She can talk with the animal only when she becomes small. 

She is a plain looking 18-year-old young adult, who passes all of her time working in a hat shop. She has big brown eyes and matching hair, tied with two pink ribbons, in a long braid. She has thick eyebrows, and Howl says that her smile is beautiful. She wears a cerulean dress with a white neck and black buttons. Sophie is a gentle, quiet young woman who doesn't like being in the spotlight. She is mature, and wears clothes meant for women older than her, despite her sister, Lettie's, protests. Sophie also initiates cleaning the massive castle. After getting cursed by the Witch of the Waste, she gains the appearance of a 90-year-old woman (with a similar appearance to Yubaba or Zeniba) with wrinkled skin and pain on her spine. According to her, she becomes more cunning as she has grown older. She still wears her dress, and now wears her straw hat adorned with a red ribbon. Due to her love for Howl, Sophie de-ages depending on her emotional state.

Known as The Fillyjonk in some English translations, the first we hear of is the late theatre director in Moominsummer Madness (the Rat is his widow) and the young Fillyjonk who joins the Snork Maiden in the late night jaunt to the wishing well. Later we meet the wonderful psychological study of the Fillyjonk Who Believed In Disasters in Tales from Moominvalley. Not a single moment of fantasy or joy, only duties and discipline; she is an extremely methodical person tied down with principles and has a deep rooted belief in prestige and tradition. Nevertheless, after a catastrophe, The Fillyjonk can be freed from the trammels of social expectation and can discover the joys of freedom, irrationality and self-expression. She was an old lady who lived in a large mansion on her own. She passed away prior to the events of the episode, and was only featured in a prominent portrait in her former home and in a flashback.

She'S a recurring character who appeared in the Pokémon anime. She is a friend of Ash's Torracat and runs a fruit stall in the Hau'oli City marketplace.
