Kino is the main character of [Kino's Journey](https://anilist.co/anime/486/Kinos-Journey/). They are a composed, stoic, and precocious teenager who travels with their motorrad, [Hermes](https://anilist.co/character/88/Hermes), in search of a country with specific desired characteristics. Their gender is ambiguous.

Kino was born in the Land of Adults with the name of a flower. They dislike it as it resembles that of an insult, which resulted in them being teased. Their original name is never explicitly stated. Their father describes the flower that their named for as a bright red prairie flower that, while short lived, blooms in abundance in the fields just beyond the borders of their home country during their birthday.

Kino is a 15-year-old traveler. Although they appear apathetic at first, they are a caring and understanding person. They travel through different countries to experience their customs and understand their histories, but never stay longer than three days. They are afraid of settling down, because it would cause them to no longer be a traveler.

Kino is an excellent marksman with amazing speed, agility, and accuracy. They initially traveled with a revolver persuader "Canon" which takes six .44 caliber bullets that they used solely for the execution or maiming of other humans or hunting. They were later gifted with a semi-auto persuader, "Woodsman" which replaced their revolver's purpose of hunting. They use "Woodsman" if they are hunting down other humans without an intent to harm or kill. Kino is rarely known to use a sniper persuader "Flute," but when they do, it is used for hunting and long-distance combat. They make use of many knives hidden in various locations in their clothing for cooking, distraction, and close-combat. They also carry a ballistic knife that doubles as a triple-barrelled gun complete with a laser sight as a final deception tactic when they are cornered. They use all of their weapons with extreme proficiency, if not flawlessly.

While adept at being a survivalist, they have a knack to disappear with impeccable timing to prevent physical and/or emotional harm. They often monologue many times to Hermes that they are no "God" and will only take in their environment and the many countries that they visits as they are. Although they is persuaded many times to sway events into the favour of many people during their travels, they are never tempted to follow up proving their unwavering discipline to their principle; "The world is not beautiful; and that, in a way, lends it a sort of beauty." Their honesty is brutal, and their self-loyalty trumps all of their actions. However, they are known to assist others out of their own inconvenience simply because Kino wants to.

Kino has a sweet tooth; it is used as comic relief against a bleak backdrop of survival and hardships of traveling. Another source of comic relief is their preference for tidiness; they are vexed whenever they cannot maintain a well maintained physical figure/appearance.

In [Gakuen Kino](https://anilist.co/manga/41263/Gakuen-Kino/), Kino is a high school magical girl who defeats evil which appear in their world, known as Mysterious Bishoujo Gun Fighter Rider Kino.

A prequel to the Kino no Tabi series, Kino is being trained by their teacher. They learn how to ride Hermes and become gifted with excellent marksmanship. However, their guilt revolving the real Kino is with them when they decide to set off on a journey. Shizou even directs them to Kino's real mother. All the while, Kino is becoming confused with their real identity.

Based on a hit light novel series by Keiichi Sigsawa, the philosophical Kino's Journey employs the time-honored motif of the road trip as a vehicle for self-discovery and universal truth. The film adapts a story from volume 5 of the Kino no Tabi light novel series and tells of another country Kino travels through. 

Kino sets off to yet another country: Tower Country. Here all citizens work on the construction of a massive tower, without knowing what purpose it serves. The rather odd encounter with a young boy adds yet another twist to the story.

Aoi Yabusaki, better known by her stage name Aoi Yuuki, is a Japanese actress, voice actress and singer represented by Pro-Fit.

Yuuki entered the entertainment industry at the age of four. As a child, she acted in films and dramas. From 1999 to 2002, she made regular appearances on the variety shows Appare Sanma Dai-sensei and Yappari Sanma Dai-sensei which aired on Fuji TV. In 2016, she won the Staff Choice Award for Voice Actress of the Year at the 4th Annual BTVA Anime Dub Awards. Then, in 2018, she won the Staff Choice Award for Best Female Lead Vocal Performance in an Anime Television Series/OVA for her role as Yuzu in "Konohana Kitan" at the 6th Annual BTVA Anime Dub Awards.

It is a tasuketsu (multiple choice) drama split into 3 separate stories featuring the three primary trios: Kino/Hermes, Shizu/Ti/Riku and Shishou/Aibou with multiple options to choose from throughout their stories, however, all three focus on the travelers of choice venturing into the Country of Ruins and meeting the lone citizen Sera.
