One of Junichi's childhood friends, and is often seen with his other friend Masayoshi. She is unpredictable as she would punch Junichi anytime. She works part-time at a Family Restaurant to support her single mother.  She is the main female character on the second arc in the anime.  Kaoru is the second heroine of Amagami - Precious Diary.   

Two years ago, Junichi Tachibana had his heart broken by a girl who stood him up on a date on Christmas Eve. Now a second-year student in high school, Junichi is wary of love because of his past and dislikes celebrating Christmas. However this Christmas, his encounter with one of six girls from his school: Haruka Morishima, Kaoru Tanamachi, Sae Nakata, Ai Nanasaki, Rihoko Sakurai, or Tsukasa Ayatsuji will finally open up his heart to love again.

According to the official website, two-volume OVA of Amagami SS will be distributed to those who purchase all the volumes of the DVD/Blu-rays of the TV series. The first volume will carry three short episodes of Haruka, Kaoru and Sae. The second volume will contain Ai, Rihoko and Tsukasa&rsquo;s episodes.

In this fun, light-hearted Special episode, Miya Tachibana attempts to figure out why her weird and slightly perverted older brother (Junichi) has such a friendly relationship with many of the girls in his school, yet can't manage to find himself a girlfriend. Fearing he might become a bum later in life and lose his job, she decides to stalk him to find out if there's more to him than what she sees at home. 
The episode is titled "Imouto" (Sister) and is available only on Blu-Ray in Volume 13 of the Amagami SS anime series.

A second-year high school boy finds himself uneasy during Christmas time due to an experience in the past. However, this year at Christmas, he gets his last chance to ask out a graduating female senior named Haruka Morishima or one of several other classmates. The story of the anime will be arranged in an omnibus format, with each heroine getting her own version of the story animated. Each heroine will sing her own version of the ending theme song.
