Aya is a second-year student at Hanasakigawa Girls' High School and the lead singer of Pastel*Palettes. She also works part-time at the fast food store with Kanon.

Aya has always admired idols ever since she was young, and the reason she wanted to become an idol was because of the idol group Marmalade's lead, Ayumi. Aya then spent three years being a trainee idol before she was chosen to become the lead singer for Pastel*Palettes.

On the outside, Aya is very cheery, high-spirited, and bubbly. She is also very nice and has always been in love with idols. She is unselfish in her pursuits, helping others for the sake of being kind. Deep down, however, she is a sensitive girl who suffers from a complex stemming from her desire to be noticed. Adding to this, she does not wear her disguise outside because she wants to get noticed, and even looks up constantly what people think of her on the internet. She gets worked up easily and tends to cry a lot, thus her improvisation skills are poor.

Ami Maeshima is a Japanese idol, actress, and YouTuber. She is best known for being the voice actress of Aya Maruyama from BanG Dream! and as a former member of Super Girls.

On 30 November 2022, it was announced that Maeshima would go on hiatus from all entertainment activities due to health issues. As a result, she terminated her contract with Avex Inc. and she stepped down from her roles as Aya Maruyama in BanG Dream! and Ibuki Niijima in D4DJ.

On September 1, 2023, Ami had announced that she had recovered, and that she would return to all her entertainment activities, returning to voice Aya Maruyama.

The anime follows the daily lives of the members of the BanG Dream! band Pastel*Palettes.

BanG Dream! FILM LIVE 2nd Stage is the second animated live movie for the BanG Dream! franchise and the sequel to BanG Dream! FILM LIVE.

It was announced on March 16, 2020 and premiered in Japanese theaters on August 20, 2021. Additionally, a pre-screening was held in five selected theaters across the country on August 10, 2021. It premiered in the United States and Canada through Eventive on September 18, 2021. 
Note: The film has 3 different post-credit scenes originally rotated weekly on theater showings. On Crunchyroll, these alternative scenes are streamed as separate episodes.

To celebrate the fifth anniversary of Bushiroad's mobile rhythm game BanG Dream! Girls Band Party!, a two-episode special anime will be aired and streamed simultaneously. The story of the special anime centers on "CiRCLE THANKS PARTY!", an event to thank the fans who have supported the bands since the days of the live house CiRCLE. The 35 girls scramble to prepare for the event, which will include food stands and live performances. And then, Kasumi and the others decide to perform a new song together at the live...

The livestreamed "BanG Dream! 10th Anniversary Special!" announced on Friday, Feb 28th, 2025 that the BanG Dream! franchise will have a new mini-anime series that will air and stream this year. Directors Kenshirou Morii and Seiya Miyajima are returning from the BanG Dream! Girls Band Party! Pico anime and its sequels for the new 52-episode series.
