Matagi (traditional winter hunters of the Touhoku region of northern Japan) hunted animals deep in the Ou Mountains. They used ancestral methods to hunt down bears. One of the Matagi men is Sanshiro.

The Touhoku region, where the strong will of human beings and the harshness of nature compete. Gunshots now endlessly echo in the mountains of Ou.
