Yuma Tsukumo is the main character of Zexal. Yuma lives with his older sister and grandmother, because he lost his parents, who were archaeologists. A necklace that his parents gave him seems to hold many secrets. His dad also left him with his deck. Despite the lack of parents, Yuma is usually a happy and energetic child, who hates unfairness and cares about his friends. He never gives up and always shoots for the top. Unfortunately, he doesn't always make it. His goal is to become the world champion of dueling and has some of the cards he needs to do so, but, unfortunately, he is not a very good card player. Because of this drawback, he will often put himself in a tough position, such as facing against his tough future rival, Shark Ryouga. Yuma teams up with the mysterious Astral, who is conveniently a dueling genius. Even though Astral tries to help Yuma, he often does not listen because of his extreme stubbornness and wrongful pride. Although they have conflicting personalities, Yuma needs to learn to work with Astral, and put aside his pride or he will never be  a dueling champion.  

The son of a temple priest and a lady shaman, destined to wield the Beast Spear and defeat the super yokai Hakumen no Mono. He is very kind-hearted and greatly values all life and friendships. With his ideals, he manages to unite the forces of mankind and yokai against Hakumen through his example of his fighting partnership with Tora. Ushio loves Asako and cares a lot for Mayuko, and will promptly appear to save them from yokai attacks.

A headstrong and passionate young Steam Smith and inventor from Hinomoto who makes a living in Aragane Station making iron and steam engines. He and his good friend Takumi developed a weapon called "Tsuranuki Zutsu" in order to defeat the Kabane. Everyone makes light of him now, but he looks forward to a day when he will be triumphant.

Nomura was originally a talented user of the Jigen-ryū school of Japanese swordsmanship; however, due to extremely harsh and rushed training enforced by his former master, his body was broken beyond repair, which made him incapable of picking up a sword ever again. Instead, he developed his capabilities in hand-to-hand combat, and eventually crafted a powerful technique known as “Madan” (Magic Bullet). This technique utilizes muscle control to focus his strength into the palm of his hand, allowing for a devastating palm strike akin to a shock-wave from any position he so chooses.

A street-style prism star and a student at Kakyoin Academy of Edel Rose. He was inspired to become a street-style prism star after meeting [Kazuki](https://anilist.co/character/126907/) as a child when he first visited Tokyo with his family.

He has somewhat of a rash nature that is commonly described as yankee and is often called as such by [Kakeru](https://anilist.co/character/126902/). He is known to be stubborn and self-centered, not caring about other people's business as long as it doesn't concern him. However, he acts indifferent towards other people because he is hiding his compassion. Beneath his ignorant attitude is actually a burning passion for things he loves, such as his love towards street-style prism shows, his enthusiasm for Japanese festivals, and his admiration for Kazuki.

Denki is a friendly, social, and energetic boy who enjoys hanging out with others. He is rather casual when interacting with other people, including the generally unfriendly Katsuki Bakugou. 


Denki's Quirk Electrification allows him to store and discharge electricity. While he can also discharge this energy over a distance, Denki has little to no control over it, meaning it will go everywhere indiscriminately. Denki is also able to absorb and neutralize electricity and other lightning-based Quirks. Whenever Denki exceeds his wattage limit, he loses his ability to discharge energy, with his entire personality changing into that of a giggling idiot for a certain period until he reverts to normal. In this state, he is always giving thumbs-ups as a way to let others know that he is okay.

Suzuka's elder brother. He is a first-year high school student. In his middle school, he became an otaku after reading light novels. Later on, he becomes an author with the pen name Chikai Towano. Compared to his successful sister, Yuu is a talentless and an average student. He thinks that he is an untrustworthy brother and mistakenly believes that Suzuka hates him because she is always rude towards him. Deep down inside he cares for his sister, and he has never experienced the feeling of protectiveness and affection for his sister.

Captain of the soft tennis club, he was the only one on the team who earnestly tried to play in matches until he recruited Maki to be his partner.

He is a fighter-game uploader, which suits his often angry, cynical and violent attitude. This attitude partially stems from his sleep disorder which gives him regular periods of insomnia, causing him to have to take sleeping pills most of the time and take up game streaming to get rid of boredom during the night. He eventually befriends Akatsuki, but quarrels a lot with Zakuro throughout the series.

Eiji is an honest, straightforward and active young man whose actions often leads into misunderstandings due to his physical appearance, which causes his lack of friends. He is an ex-delinquent who joined the Literature club along with Nanako Yukishiro.

He is an esper mercenary and assassin hired by the government.

Asada Hirofumi is a first year student of Seidou High School. He is a pitcher and shares a room with Kuramochi and Sawamura.

Han Shin-Woo, a student in Ye Ran High School, popular because of his excellent martial skills. On the day of Rai's awakening, he happens to meet him on the way to school and gradually becomes close to Rai at school, developing a bond which can be termed as friendship. Eventually he gets involved in many strange fights against people with extra-ordinary powers. Rai and Frankenstein rescues him and others from the mess everytime. Later he as well as the others are brainwashed for their own safety and so remember nothing of the strange happenings.  Shin-Woo is an energetic and athletic teenager with bright red hair. He is always seen with a bandage over the bridge of his nose. He is actually pretty good looking but not that many people realize it because of his behavior.  He is well-known within the city to be skilled in martial arts and feared by gangs. Shin-Woo is often shown sleeping (and drooling) in class and slacking off. Though he is shown as a lazy student, he is also very courageous and would protect his friends at all costs. He often tends to be late for school due to over sleeping. He has liked Yuna for a long time and it is disclosed that he confessed to her in past which led to an embarrassing situation. Since then they have been just good friends although Shin-Woo still has a liking for Yuna. Shin-Woo is also starting to like Seira.  Shin-Woo is an amazing Martial Artist excelling in Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido. He is well-known within the city to be skilled in martial arts and is feared by gangs. He is able to match the powers of M-24's Infected, and since then has been getting stronger.  Even for normal human parameters, it's been quoted that Shin-Woo possesses an incredible amount of strength, which he has displayed during his multiple battles; including those with the Infected.  It's been noted that one of Shin-Woo's most incredible atributes is his speed, shown as he instantly disappeared when he went to aid Yuna right after she yelled for help. Alongside his speed, his agility and reflexes have incresed during the progression of the series; to the point he was able to dodge one of Shark's attacks and counterattack at the same time.  Shin-Woo's most incredible strength relies in his durability, since he is able to endure attacks that would normaly kill a human being; as shown when he took a beating from Shark and was even able to stood up against him one more time right after he threatened to kill his friends.
