A mysterious, long-nosed gentleman who resides in the Velvet Room. As in the other Persona games, Igor's purpose is to assist the player in acquiring new powers and Persona. At the end of the game, because the Main Character has fulfilled his contract, Igor uses the power of the Main Character's social links to forge a Persona of the World Arcana with the power to change reality. Igor states that he had never thought to see such power during his lifetime. He also makes an appearance in the anime sequel, Persona -trinity soul-, meeting with the protagonist Shin Kanzato as a fortune teller. He tells Shin that they have met before in the Velvet Room.

Persona 4 takes place in a rural town named Inaba. There have been mysterious murders occurring whenever there was fog after heavy rain. There were also rumors about a channel on television airing only at midnight called Mayonaka TV, during which it is said that one can see his/her "other half" when staring at the TV screen. 
After hearing about a recent unsolved murder which occurred during the fog, the characters—Narukami, Chie, and Yosuke—discuss how each of them had attempted to watch the mysterious TV channel and witnessed the murder victim. The protagonist later realizes that during midnight when the channel is on, his body can phase into his television set as a gateway to enter another world infested with shadows. 
After discovering this, they all decide to explore. When first completely entering the world, dazed and confused, Narukami meets Teddie. Mayonaka TV and the town murders seem to have a connection. The murder victims may be merely victims of Mayonaka TV. Everyone decides that they will together try to solve the mysterious murders by exploring the hidden world of Mayonaka TV.

At that time, a series of strange incidents happen in Ayanagi City such as the crew of a submarine that suddenly disappears while in their submarine, or a spiritless symptom which disturbs the world after ten years, or the case of the inside out corpse where a student took on a cruel appearance. Ry&#333; tracks down the organization behind the string of incidents, and having become involved in the incidents, Shin awakens the "Persona".

After realizing the value of life and the importance of his own allies, Makoto finally got his smile back. He finds himself learning more about those comrades and getting closer to them. Makoto wishes that everything will continue just as they are. However, little by little, the pieces and people in Makoto's new, happy life begin to fall apart.

A teenager who was orphaned as a young boy returns to the city of his childhood. Shortly after transferring to Gekkoukan High School, he is attacked by Shadows &mdash; creatures that feed on the minds of their victims. The assault awakens his Persona, Orpheus, his only chance at defeating these creatures of the night. He soon discovers that he shares this special ability with other students at his new school. From them he learns of the "Dark Hour," a hidden time that exists between one day and the next, swarming with Shadows. He joins the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad (SEES), and with his new friends, confronts the threat of the Shadows. 
After signing a contract in which he "accepts his fate of his own free will," the main character battles with the other members of SEES against the Greater Shadows, incarnations with traits and appearances similar to those of the first 12 Major Arcana of the Tarot. While this is occurring, he continues to encounter and eventually befriends the child who gave him the contract to sign at the very beginning of the game, an entity who refers to himself as Pharos, and is really the incarnation of Death, the 13th Arcana.

While playing a ritual-like children's game called "Persona", students are knocked unconscious. While asleep, they encounter a man named Philemon who bestows several Personas upon them. When they wake up, the youths discover they can summon Personas.

Kazumi thought he was good friend with a boy he had known for ten years, Rihito. One day, while they were out in town together, looking for a shop selling masks for their school's masquerade ball, Rihito suddenly disappears. Kazumi drops school and starts looking for him, and will soon set foot in a totally new world. In an abandonned factory thought to be haunted, he ends up face to face with a group of demons. Running away, he finally finds Rihito, one week after he disappeared. His friend seems to go well but his personnality changed. Rihito seems to be able to lead them and is surprised that Kazumi can see the demons. He announces to Kazumi that he always hated him. Distressed, Kazumi doesn't have time to react for the demons attack him again. A mysterious creature then appear out of his body and get rid of the monsters. 
From now on, Kazumi is going to discover a new side of the city he lives in. A city in which demons et personae live (fighting creatures that people with the same powers as him can invoke) Kazumi will be guided in this new world by the three people who live hidden in the factory, and also own Personae.
