The Neighbor's Club&mdash;a club founded for the purpose of making friends, where misfortunate boys and girls with few friends live out their regrettable lives. 
Although Yozora Mikazuki faced a certain incident at the end of summer, the daily life of the Neighbor's Club goes on as usual. A strange nun, members of the student council and other new faces make an appearance, causing Kodaka Hasegawa's life to grow even busier. 
While they all enjoy going to the amusement park, playing games, celebrating birthdays, and challenging the "school festival"&mdash;a symbol of the school life normal people live&mdash;the relations amongst the members slowly begins to change...

Recent high school transfer student Hasegawa Kodaka is pathetically inept at making friends. Kodaka is an outcast, with his natural blonde hair which he inherited from his deceased English mother, and his unpleasant, fierce gaze. When he comes across the brash loner Mikazuki Yozora, who typically chats with her imaginary friend, the two outsiders become the unlikeliest of allies.
 
Realizing that they have no hope of a normal social life, the two rejects decide to form a group called “The Neighbors Club” in order to make friends and maybe even learn a thing or two about social skills. As luck would have it, five new members join the club who are more socially awkward than they are. Will these quirky misfits ever make normal friends, or are they all doomed to social failure?

A "what if" alternative version of the original story, on which the cast gets acquainted in a different manner. 
The basic premise is that Kodaka, a rude looking and easily misunderstood transfer student catches a glimpse from a conversation between Sena (the most popular girl on school) and "her friend" Renka (a character from a visual novel); after a short discussion followed, Sena decides to give it a try and make some friends with Kodaka's help. 
This is a tweak from the original premise, on which Kodaka catches Yozora speaking to her "air friend", and is Yozora the one who decides to start practicing how to make friends with Kodaka's help.
