Awai Oohoshi is a first-year student at Shiraitodai High School in West Tokyo and a supporting character in the manga "Saki".   ~!She is confirmed to be a powerful opponent and during her match in the West Tokyo's finals, Awai's hair was shown waving and behind her was flaring with a night sky look. She is said to be Miyanaga Teru's successor and acknowledged as one of the few amazing 1st years, along with Miyanaga Saki.  Awai was one of the few players who sensed it when Komaki Jindai fell asleep and hit Yuuki Kataoka with a sanbaiman. !~ Power:  ~!Awai's current revealed power is called 'Zettai Anzen-ken' - 'Absolute Safety Zone', making all her opponents have bad starting hands (ex: 5-6 shanten).   Sumire stated that in Shiraitodai only Takami's 'Harvest Time' ability can overcome Awai's passive power, in which she is genuinely surprised that Himeko is able to get 2-shanten starting hand, making Sumire remarking later that 'Mairu and Himeko's combination is stronger than Awai's Absolute Safety Zone'.  She also possesses the ability to get kan ura-dora when she wins, but it's easier to avoid than her Zettai Anzen-ken ability. !~

Saki's never been a big fan of mahjong. A lifetime of being forced to play with family at holidays (and losing her money as a consequence...) has left a foul taste for the game in her mouth. When she's convinced, though, to play a game with her classmates, she discovers that not only has fending off her family left her with an uncanny ability for the game but, more surprisingly, that it can even be fun!
 
Is this revelation enough to cleanse Saki's distaste for the game? Can her classmates convince her to join their club, or is there just too much baggage to make it worth her while?

The Achiga Girls' Academy in Nara once defeated regional mahjong powerhouse Bansei High School. It advanced into the national team semifinals but lost to the eventual champion, and the mahjong club was later disbanded. Six years later, elementary school student Shizuno Takakamo befriends transfer student Nodoka Haramura. The two eventually enter Achiga Girls', but Nodoka transfers out of the school in the second year. When Shizuno sees Nodoka on television the following year as the national middle school individual mahjong champion, she decides to revive Achiga's mahjong club.
