The only information received in the manga so far is that she is an upper first class exorcist and a senior inspector. She was dispatched by the True Cross Vatican Headquarters to investigate the Japanese Branch's "risk factor".  2 years before Rin was born, she was Fujimoto Shirou's student.  She claims to be 18, but in chapter 11 Yukio said that she already turned 26, and she seems sensitive about her age, as she threw a beer can at him claiming 'her hand slipped' shortly after

This world consists of two dimensions joined as one, like a mirror. The first is the world in which the humans live, Assiah. The other is the world of demons, Gehenna.
