Natsuno's best friend. He has a slight crush on the nurse, Ritsuko.    

~!He dies in episode 5 after being bitten by Shimizu Megumi and resurrects as a shiki. He is then forced to turn Natsuno into a shiki against both of their wills. When Natsuno comes back as a Shiki, Tohru begs for his forgiveness, and although he doesn't tell anyone about Natsuno, he remains at Sunako's side, doing everything to survive, even knowing that Natsuno is their enemy, slowly distancing himself from his best friend.   When Ritsuko also dies and becomes a Shiki, she refuses to drink blood, and Tatsumi kidnaps her co-worker Yasuyo and throws her in Ritsuko's cell, while Tohru is forced to witness and make sure Ritsuko attack Yasuyo. When the Shiki extermination breaks out, Ritsuko begs Tohru to release Yasuyo, and after much internal struggles, Tohru eventually complies. Afterwards they stay together in the cell, and gets staked by the villagers when they are asleep, next to eachother. !~

During a fiercely hot summer in Sotoba, a peaceful and quiet village with a population of 1300 people, a series of bizarre deaths begin to occur. At the same time, a strange family moves into a long abandoned mansion in the region. After supposedly visiting this strange family, the fashionable Shimizu Megumi goes missing and the entire village goes out in search for her.

The story takes place in a particularly hot summer in the nineties, in a small quiet village called Sotoba. A series of mysterious deaths begin to spread in the village, at the same time when a strange family moves into the long abandoned Kanemasa mansion. Toshio Ozaki, dean of the only hospital in Sotoba, initially suspects an epidemic.
