An elementary school student chosen by Dendoh to be one of its pilots during a Garufa raid on Earth. Hokuto is intelligent and studious, with great skill in using computers and an interest in Soccer. His level-headed and incisive demeanor contrasts and complements that of his fellow Dendoh pilot Ginga Izumo, who tends to be short-tempered and impulsive. Hokuto has great talent in being able to reproduce the body movements of others, allowing him to synchronize with the martial artist Ginga&#039;s controls while piloting Dendoh.

The story takes place in the future where war machines from evil mechanical alien empire Garufa finally reaches Earth. In order to protect earth, an Earth defense organization called GEAR (Guard Earth and Advanced Reconnaissance) is formed. GEAR has an ultimate weapon in a form of war mecha, GEAR Fighter Dendoh, which is piloted by two elementary school students, namely Kusanagi Hokuto and Izumo Ginga.
