Kyousuke is an average highschooler, has average grades, lives in an average family (upper-middle class with a father, mother and sister), and has average physical features. Currently, he attends an average high school with Manami and he begins the story as a first-year, but he becomes a second-year during the events of the novel. As far as future plans, he intends to attend the same local university as his childhood friend, Manami. At the beginning of the series, Kyousuke and his younger sister, Kirino, have a distant relationship. Kyousuke says that they entered a "cold war" of sorts a few years ago, but the details of this cold war have yet to be revealed.
 
Kyousuke is a good-hearted character and is extremely loyal to his friends and Kirino. He's willing to take risks for them and help them at any cost.

 ~!He and Kuroneko date for a while, but she ultimately breaks up with him. After witnessing his sadness firsthand, Kirino tries to get them back together, but Kyousuke decides not to when they approach Kuroneko and he learns Kirino wants to be the number one girl in his heart. !~   

~!Later, his parents force him to move out after they express their discomfort in his relationship with his sister. Whilst he is living alone, Ruri, Ayase and Kirino argue over who should take care of him as he needs someone to cook him meals. Eventually everyone agrees that Ayase should be looking after him while he studies as she hates him the most. After the two months, he moves back home and his parents reveal that they knew about it all along and simply used Kirino as an excuse to get him motivated to work. !~   

~! He eventually develops into a siscon and has impulses towards her, stating that he was beyond cure. !~

These episodes contrast with the good end arc of the TV series, which was an original ending written for the anime, and instead closely follows the original story from the light novels.

For longer than he can remember, Kirino has ignored his comings and goings and looked at him with spurning eyes. It seemed as if the relationship between Kyousuke and his sister, now fourteen, would continue this way forever. 
One day, however, Kyousuke finds a DVD case of a magical girl anime entitled Hoshikuzu Witch Merle (Stardust Witch Merle), which had fallen into the entrance way of his house. To Kyousuke's surprise, inside the case is a hidden adult video game titled Imouto to Koishiyo! (Love with Little Sister!). Kyousuke attempts to fish out the culprit who dropped the case by bringing up the topic of magical girl anime at the family dinner table. All that comes out is a strong negative reaction from his parents, especially his anti-otaku policeman father. 
That night, Kirino bursts into Kyousuke's room and, in perhaps the first conversation she has initiated with him in years, says they "have things to talk about." Kirino brings Kyousuke to her room and shows him an extensive collection of moe anime and lolicon bishoujo games she has been collecting in secret.

OreKou follows the story of the light novels, set at the time when Kirino Kousaka leaves for America to undergo athletic training. While the OreImo anime series tells the story in Kirino's elder brother Kyousuke's point of view, OreKou focuses on Kuroneko's experiences as Ruri Gokou, a high school freshman who becomes Kyousuke's junior. While Kuroneko struggles in mingling with her new classmates, she tries to sort out her feelings for Kyousuke.

The "new sibling romantic comedy" revolves around Masamune Izumi, a light novel author in high school. Masamune's little sister is Sagiri, a shut-in girl who hasn't left her room for an entire year. She even forces her brother to make and bring her meals when she stomps the floor. Masamune wants his sister to leave her room, because the two of them are each other's only family. 
 
Masamune's novel illustrator, penname “Ero Manga Sensei,” draws extremely perverted drawings, and is very reliable. Masamune had never met his illustrator, and figured he was just a disgusting, perverted otaku. However, the truth is revealed … that his “Ero Manga Sensei” is his own younger sister! To add to the chaos that erupts between the siblings, a beautiful, female, best-selling shoujo manga creator becomes their rival!

Hasegawa Kodaka has transferred schools, and he's having a hard time making friends. It doesn't help that his blond hair tends to make people think he's a delinquent. One day, he runs into his bad-tempered solitary classmate Yozora while she's talking animatedly to her imaginary friend Tomo. Realizing that neither of them have any actual friends, they decide that the best way to alter this situation is to form a club and start recruiting. 
That is how "Rinjinbu", The Neighbours' Club, was formed, a club specifically designed for people who don't have very many friends. As other lonely classmates slowly join their little club, they'll try to learn how to build friendships through cooking together, playing games, and other group activities. But will this group of relationship-challenged misfits really be able to get along?
