Found in the scrapyard below the floating city Tiphares by the Hunter Warrior Daisuke Ido, Gally soon becomes a Hunter Warrior herself, hunting for bounties throughout the scrapyard city. Having no recollection of her past, Gally's only link to her memories is her "Panzer Kunst" a martial art style for cyborgs that she somehow remembers. While trying to live her life and protect those dear to her, she is eventually caught up in the struggle between the utopian society of Tiphares and the suppressed surface dwellers.

Doc Ido, a doctor and mechanic who lives and works in the hellish, postapocalyptic "Scrapyard", finds the&mdash;miraculously preserved&mdash;remains of a female cyborg in a junk heap. This one shot is composed of four separate side stories for Battle Angel Alita, known in Japan as Gunnm. 
Before being compiled as one single volume in 2007, the short stories were first published in Ultra Jump in 1997 and 2006. Three of them ("Furusato", "Seiyakyoku" and "Sonic Finger") had also been included in the Japanese Gunnm: Complete Edition. In 2018, all four stories were published in English in the Battle Angel Alita Deluxe Edition box set. 
Several characters who appear in the side stories do not appear in the regular manga. The side stories also provide more background on the Factory and motorball.

A 3 minute 3D-CGI rendered movie clip included with volume 6 of the Gunnm: Complete Edition manga reprint. It showcases Alita in a Third League motorball race with players from two of her races such as "Armor" Togo, Degchalev, and Valdicci, and depicts events from both of those races.
