A teacher at Fujimi Middle School who offers to be the volleyball coach. He uses "Spartan-like" training methods for Kozue and seems like a callous man, but actually deeply cares for his students.

Kozue Ayuhara is a highschool girl and enthusiastic volleyball player. Her dream is to play in the Japanese national volleyball team. During the series she makes it from the school district league up to the Japanese volleyball finals, step by step till the international volleyball championship. But the faster and higher Kozue climbs the career ladder up, the more she gets confronted with the dark side of success: too high expectations, self-conceit and envy are progressing towards serious problems.

The story is about Kozue Ayuhara, the new girl who transferred to Fujimi College, who tried out for the school volleyball team. Her friendship with Midori would develop, and her talents would impress coach Honga more and more each day. Though she showcased extraordinary volleyball skills, she would make enemies with Yoshimura, the star of the current team. Kozue would discover that being at the top would bring stress, incompatibilities and other dilemmas into her life. The Japanese team have been selected to compete in the World Junior Championships. Kozue, Midori, Kakinouchi and the other all-Japan teams, under coach Inokuma, work hard on rigorous training and head for New York, where the world's strongest players await. 
 
In the first round the team was immediately overwhelmed by the outstanding stamina of the American players, but the team managed. The final match has finally arrived. In order to defeat the spikes of the Soviet team, Kozue and her team devised a secret plan. Where will the glory shine? The time of the decisive battle is approaching.
