__Manga version__:
Best friend to Sousou and Kakouton, he was destined to die of cancer but somehow managed to be cured. He oddly flickered like a ghost around Kaku, his sweet-heart. Reasonably strong and highly manipulative (perhaps even against Sousou himself), he was put into a coma by Bashoku Youjou, who framed Kannei for the attack.  

__Anime version__:
The same as in the manga except that he did not suffer from cancer and was killed by Bashoku instead of being put into a coma. He is stabbed in the heart rather than in the back and dies from his wounds. He was much stronger as well, being able to defeat Ryomou very easily in the first season. Bashoku had to resort to poisoning before being able to kill him.  

Loosely based on the novel 'Romance of the three kingdoms', modern day Japan sees a similar struggle for power between different rival schools with the three strongest being; Kyosho Academy led by Sousou Moutoku, Nanyo Academy by Sonsaku Hakufu and Ryuubi Gentoku from Seito High School. Together these three tousei, each with their own mangatama, fight for the honour of becoming ikki tousen and fulfilling their fated destiny through battle and conquest.

Sealed in ancient jewels are the spirits of the heroes who tried and failed to unite China in the Three Kingdoms era. These jewels have been scattered throughout Japan, and have the power to draw out the full potential of those who inherit them. Living in the country, Hakufu's desire to beat something to a pulp goes unfulfilled until her mother tells her to go to Tokyo, where she starts training with other Toushi and sets foot on the path to her destiny.
