Another of Tezuka’s academics/scientists, Whisky often takes on the role of the antagonist in Tezuka’s stories.  Rather than being truly evil, Whisky is simply overly proud, often self-serving, and generally unwilling to heed advice or warnings.  While he does on occasion aid others, it usually comes at a price.

Although he first appeared in a more prototypical form in Magic Mansion (1948) and Dr. Tiger (1950), his character traits were first really on display in his official debut and namesake role as “Iron Heart” Whisky, the Minister of Science in Next World (1951).  He also had memorable roles as Albert Koch, the adult version of Kenichi‘s childhood friend, in Jungle Emperor (1950-54), and as the Gernica research scientist in Astro Boy (1952-68), along with a few others.

Distinguishing Features
Unlike the short, round figures that make up the bulk of Tezuka’s cadre of scientists, Whisky has a tall, laanky frame. He can usually be spotted by his long nose, large round spectacles and puffy side-burns – all of which help to enhance his overall appearance of aloofness and superiority.

In the distant year 2003, Japan is a technological utopia, and robots are everywhere. One such robot, Tobio, was built by the brilliant Dr. Tenma to replace his dead son. He is rescued from the scrap heap by the benevolent Professor Ochanomizu, a crusader for robot civil rights. Now the little robot, renamed Astro Boy, is given a mission to defend Japan and the world from all manner of sinister threats. Using his seven super-abilities and 100,000 horsepower worth of strength to battle evil, Astro hopes to set an example to the world of the good which all robots are capable of.

"Fossil Island" is an omnibus story featuring the dreams of three travelers who visit Fossil Island. They are Rock, a newspaper reporter, Kodama, a songwriter, and Tezuka Osamu, a cartoonist. 
There are many strange rocks on the island that look like human figures. After they see the rocks, the travelers have strange dreams associated with the rocks. Rock dreams that he becomes partner to Sherlock Holmes and fights against the phantom thief Lepin for a hidden sculpture. In his dream, Tezuka Osamu, by eating ancient foods, goes to a world where humans have animal brains and animals have human brains. Meanwhile, Kodama, in her dream, is robbed of her body by Eros, the god of love, and goes to Heaven. (Source: Tezukaosamu.net)

Nuclear testing has resulted in the abrupt evolution of the Fumoon, a tiny but highly intelligent humanoid race on a small island, who are detected by Dr. Yamadano. Except for a few witnesses including the detective Shinsaku Ban, and the young men Rock and Kenichi and Kenichi&rsquo;s sister Pichi (Pinoko), no one believes him. The Fumoon are kidnapping animals from around the world to bring with them as they use their space ships to evacuate the earth, because they know Earth is shortly to be destroyed by an enveloping cloud of black gas created by a stellar explosion. The Fumoon intend to abandon mankind, but one Fumoon, Rokoko, who becomes good friends with Kenichi, tries to help Dr. Yamadano and the others to develop a space ship to allow a few humans to escape, with the help of Dr. Ochanomizu and Dr. Frankenstein.
