With a birth of great pain, Richard was born intersex (a general term used for various conditions in which a person is born with reproductive or sexual anatomy that doesn't seem to fit the typical definitions of female or male). Richard has heterochromia iridium, making his left eye yellow and right eye purple.


Richard's mother saw him as a monster and despised him. Leaving him to be loved by his father, who was oblivious to his wife's hatred. Richard himself is a tormented child, fearing abandonment and suffering from strange visions of Joan of Arc, who tells him that he is a demon to be feared.
Richard grew up beneath his older brother's skill and expectations. He was often training to make up for his fragility. Despite his weakness, others treated him as part of the family, excluding his mother. Due to his mother's neglect, Richard grew up with a deep love and longing to be by his father's side.

He wishes to become greater through his training while waiting for his father to become king.

Richard, the ambitious third son of the House of York, believes he is cursed, damned from birth to eternal darkness. But is it truly fate that sets him on the path to personal destruction? Or his own tormented longings? Based on an early draft of Shakespeare's Richard III, Aya Kanno’s dark fantasy finds the man who could be king standing between worlds, between classes, between good and evil.
