Wombat is a creature that came to Earth from a faraway planet. It came to the planet with the mission to fill it with love, and is responsible for enroling (unwillingly) the 5 protagonists into the duty of Battle Lovers. Wombat is not its true name, but a nickname given by the Battle Lovers, because not only it looks like the animal the name references, but because its true name is not understandable. To fit in with society, it uses the school's homeroom teacher, Mr. Tawarayama's, dead body as a sort of shell it can control at will and can prevent its decay, so long as it stays nearby.

The boys call him Wombat, given that his name is untranslatable. As for season 2, he no longer minds it, even referring to himself as Wombat.

Wombat is a creature who is very passionate about the cause of love it's defending, and doesn't appreciate much the fact the Battle Lovers do not seem as passionate about it as it is.
Although being this focused on love, Wombat can also reveal itself to be quite an absent-minded creature, with the repeated times he forgot about Tawarayama's body, which could be a consequence of its intense focus on love. Unlike Yumoto, Wombat is not fond of cuddles, as it cause its fur to fall off very easily. It is always the target to Yumoto's affection, much to its dismay.

It was revealed in Season 1 in Episode 12 that Wombat turns out to be the equivalent of an animal rights activist. As he is trying to prevent an unscrupulous reality show producer from destroying the animals of Earth... which includes the humans. Which means he knew the true reason why loveless monsters were back on earth from the beginning. He knew already about Lord Hireashi's intensions to revive a new season of CIDE/"Can I Destroy the Earth?" knowing that he was recording the continuous fights between the Conquest Club and Battle Lovers for the viewers of the Universe's entertainment. This somewhat annoys the Defense Club being left to in the dark from the start about the true reason they were chosen to fight as Battle Lovers.!~

Besides being one of the leading figures in the Binan Koukou Chikyuu Boueibu LOVE! franchise, he also had an appearance in episode 5 of the Robihachi anime, where he is the feared Boss of the underworld of planet Haccone. As these anime mostly share the same producer Pony Canyon and the same animation studio studio comet, this appearance might either confirm that these anime belong to the same universe or that it's just seen to be a reference to  their other production(s).

Mugihito is a Japanese actor, voice actor and narrator from Musashino, Tokyo. Mugihito was formerly credited under his birth name and also Mugihito Amachi (天地麦人).

An OVA to continue on from the second season.

The anime's story is set in Neo Tokyo in the year G.C. (Galaxy Century) 0051, which marks a half century since first contact was made. Humans have obtained super light-speed navigation technology and formed a commonwealth of planets with aliens. A streak of bad luck is continuing for self-proclaimed freelance reportage writer Robby Yarge, who is around 30 years old. He fails at work, so his contract is cut. His girlfriend leaves him, he nearly dies in a traffic accident, and debt collectors come after him. 

One day, a bag snatcher steals Robby's bag, and a young man helps him. Hatchi Kita, an 18-year-old part-time worker, catches the criminal and returns Robby's bag. Robby offers him his gratitude and a meal in return. The pair discover they are complete opposites and soon part ways. 

However, Hatchi turns up again in Robby's life as a debt collector. Hatchi explains that it's his part-time job working for the loan shark Yan. A cat-and-mouse chase begins, and Yan's Finance president Yan takes his subordinates Aro and Gra along for the ride. Robby manages to elude Hatchi and escape to space while shaking off Yan's group. Robby thinks of escaping to Isekandar, a distant and legendary planet in the Milky Way that is said to bring happiness to those who go there. Though Robby thought he had escaped to space alone, he discovers Hatchi inside his spaceship. The two decide to travel across the galaxy together in search of Isekandar.

Binan is a city somewhere in Japan. The “Earth Defense Club” at Binan High School was a club that did absolutely nothing. When club members Atsushi Kinugawa and En Yufuin were chilling out while soaking in the hot tub at the bathhouse Kurotamayu, a pink beast (Wombat) suddenly appeared out of thin air. “I want to save this planet... can you please lend me your strength?” The two feel the mood has been ruined by Wombat who talks to them in Japanese about how he wants to save Earth with the power of love. Just then, the son of the bathhouse owner Yumoto Hakone shows up, and as soon as he sees Wombat, he chases it, screaming “Let me fluff you up!” The next day, Kinugawa and Yufuin are caught by Wombat once again at school along with the other club members Io Naruko and Ryu Zaou.. Bracelets were clasped onto the wrist of these four, along with Yumoto Hakone who bumped into them chasing after Wombat, with a command that they must save the earth. “It's about love-making!” they hear as a bright light emanating from the bracelet envelops their entire bodies, and the five transform into “Battle Lovers”, the heirs of the throne of love...
