Rui is an upbeat, quirky, and cheerful type of guy. His job was previously an English teacher, which is why he often uses English words in his speech. He also represents the "E" for English in S.E.M. With his English proficiency, he hopes to get worldwide attention and become an international idol. 

He loves being an English teacher, but thought that not wanting to amount to anything more would be a waste. According to him, the idol life is way more exciting and fitting for him, and having such a big dream is a wonderful thing.

Being close friends with Hokuto throughout college and watching him perform at his school’s cultural festival really sparks his motivation. When Michio invites him to join in becoming an idol, he quickly accepts. During S.E.M’s rough start on becoming an idol, Rui stays positive and tries to get the others too as well.
