Like the R Season, SailorStars is divided into two arcs: 
The first arc solves some conflicts from the SuperS season, and also sees the return of the Outer Senshi, Haruka, Michiru, Setsuna, and Hotaru (now reborn as a child). 
The second arc is the actual plot from the manga. Usagi bids farewell to Mamoru, who is going to America to study abroad. In his place comes the Three Lights, an idol trio consisting of three boys, Seiya, Taiki, and Yaten. The new enemy is Galaxia, a woman who desires to rule the entire galaxy by collecting the Star Seeds of humans. Three new Senshi appear, the Sailor Starlights, who also intend to stop Galaxia without Sailormoon's help.

SuperS centers heavily on Chibi-usa and the Sailor Team. A new enemy, the Dead Moon Circus, has now appeared. Their motive is to find the Golden Dream Mirror that would be used to rule the world. To do this, the enemy attacks innocent victims for their Dream Mirrors and test their energy. Chibi-usa also has a new ally on her side, Pegasus. This season also sees the Sailor Senshi obtaining new powers. 

Usagi Tsukino is a normal girl until she meets up with Luna, a talking cat, who tells her that she is Sailor Moon. As Sailor Moon, Usagi must fight evils and enforce justice, in the name of the Moon and the mysterious Moon Princess. She meets other girls destined to be Sailor Senshi (Sailor Scouts), and together, they fight the forces of evil!

- The tankoubon release contains 52 Acts and 9 bonus chapters across 18 volumes; chapter/volume counts follow the tankoubon release. 
- The shinsouban release contains the original 52 Acts plus 8 new Acts across 12 volumes, but no bonus chapters as all 9 were released separately in <a href="https://anilist.co/manga/38552/">Sailor Moon Short Stories</a> alongside another bonus chapter that was previously released in an artbook.

Usagi Tsukino and her friends are living peaceful lives as ordinary high school students. Mamoru Chiba, Usagi's boyfriend, is headed to America to study abroad. At the airport, after Mamoru proposes to Usagi, he is then mysteriously extinguished by someone's hand. Unable to accept Mamoru's disppearance, Usagi hides her memory of that event. Meanwhile, Shadow Galactica, led by Sailor Galaxia, as well as Sailor Starlights appear in front of Usagi. Without knowing whether Sailor Starlights are allies or enemies, the Sailor Guardians are robbed of their Sailor Crystals, the source of their power, by almighty Sailor Galaxia, and are killed by one after another. In a hopeless situation, Usagi, as Eternal Sailor Moon, challenges Sailor Galaxia for the final battle.

Sailor Moon battles Shadow Galactica, an enemy threatening her friends in order to rule the universe. Can she protect her loved ones and persevere?
