The Future Foundation is in shambles after the Final Killing Game and the revelation of the true culprit. As a desperate plot arises from one of the survivors to rid the world of despair once and for all, the remaining Future Foundation members must band together to stop it. Fortunately, they find themselves with help from a group of unlikely allies as they race against the clock to stop their world from being changed. 
 
As a direct continuation of Mirai-hen, Kibou-hen serves as the finale to the Hope's Peak storyline of the Danganronpa series.

Makoto Naegi, the Ultimate Hope who defeated the Ultimate Despair, Junko Enoshima, is under suspicion of treason against the Future Foundation for harboring the Remnants of Despair who carried on her will. As top members of the Future Foundation, including Makoto's former classmates Kyoko Kirigiri, Aoi Asahina, and Yasuhiro Hagakure, are brought together to decide on Makoto's punishment, they are all imprisoned by Monokuma, who forces everyone to participate in a final killing game. They must try to find the traitor among them who will kill them in their sleep, while also trying to avoid being mortally poisoned by personalised forbidden actions. Thrust into a game where no one can trust each other, Makoto's ideals of hope are pushed to their very limits.

Nagito Komaeda wakes up after experiencing death in the Neo World Program. What kind of world is he seeing and why did he wake up? 

Nagito appears to be in a strange world, including students who have been seen before as well as people who never existed. He is an ordinary boy with no Ultimate Luck, attending an ordinary school. Constrained by being the protagonist, he thinks that having a big talent would interrupt his happiness. He believes that living an ordinary life, being moderately happy, while watching his classmates have a normal youth is what's wonderful. 

However, one day, a boy calling himself "The Destroyer of the World" appears, having the form of red-eyed Hajime Hinata. He begins the destruction of Nagito's world...
