Note: The 1993 TV series is a recut of the 7-episode OVA series 'Tama & Friends: 3 Choume Monogatari' omitting the first OVA, but adding 3 additional new episodes.

The characters are Tama, Momo, Wocket, Tiggle, Rockney, Pimmy, Bupkus, Bengpu, and Chopin. There is no consistent plot. Tama and his friends just have little, family friendly, adventures every episode. The only consistency is when a new friend is made one episode and flash backs.

In a city somewhere in Japan, there's a flyer often seen on Third Street with a picture of a cat with a kinked tail, bearing the words: “Have you seen Tama?” A young boy gazes at the flyer, but he has fluffy ears on his head…!? Watch the dogs and cats from Third Street take on a human form and get up to some mischief.
