Otoha Mao, a normal first-year high school student, has a sudden encounter with Hinata Meisa, and thereafter falls into the position of taking over as the top idol Hana in Aikatsu Planet. But at the same time, she needs to keep the fact that she's now Hana a secret! Aikatsu Planet is the story of Mao and her friends doing their idol activities and aiming to become top idols.

Ichigo Hoshimiya is a regular, ordinary middle school girl. But when her best friend, Aoi, invites her to join the idol training academy, Starlight Academy, her whole world is turned upside down. As she encounters all kinds of rivals and learns what it takes to be an idol, she uses her Aikatsu Cards to challenge countless auditions.

Raki Kiseki is a second-year middle school student who transfers to Star Harmony Academy to become an idol. However, when she uses an Aikatsu Pass she received from her big sister (an Aikatsu engineer), something mysterious happens. Lots of doors appeared before her, and when she opens them, she meets Aikatsu idols she never knew before, such as Yume Nijino. Raki vows to design her own premium dress and perform in it on stage. The new anime will have a theme of "Aikatsu with your friends!" and will center on a new protagonist named Aine Yuuki, who is good at making friends, and is enrolled in Star Harmony Academy's general education track. She befriends Mio Minato, the school's top idol, and becomes an idol herself.

Aikatsu Stars! features the protagonist Yume Nijino. Yume aims to become a top idol, and she enrolls in the Yotsuboshi Gakuen. Aikatsu Planet! The Movie is the movie adaptation of Aikatsu Planet! series. Screened alongside the movie Aikatsu! 10th STORY: Mirai e no STARWAY. 
Mao Otoha, who is now a second year high school student at Seirei Private High School, is now performing as the top idol Hana in Aikatsu Planet! 

A few months after the Planet Princess Grand Prix, her schedule is packed everyday. The reason why Mao can be an active idol is
because of the bond she has with her fans, in which she has changed and felt touched, and now would like to deliver her gratitude to those important around her by launching the "Aikatsu Planet! Gratitude Festival".
