Taka (technically Tamahome) and Miaka are now happily married and only six months before their new family would be born, but an obessed girl named Mayo would do anything to make Taka hers. She enters the world of the Four Gods, determined to win Taka's heart and be the new priestess.

Miaka and Taka (Tamahome's reborn out-of-the-book self) return to the Universe of the Four Gods to try and restore Tamahome's memories to Taka. This is not as easy as it sounds, however, when the evil Tenkou shows up to rain on their parade. He manages to thwart most of their attempts at getting Taka's memories back, and uses his newfound power to summon the Gods outside the book.

Over a series of five years, Megumi Nishizaki wrote thirteen Japanese, light novels based on Fushigi Y&ucirc;gi. With illustrations by Yuu Watase, Fushigi Y&ucirc;gi Gaiden primarily explores the lives the various Celestial Warriors before they are seen in the manga. The only two novels to be set after the manga, Eik&#333; Den (J&#333;kan) and Eik&#333; Den (Gekan), later became the basis for the third Fushigi Y&ucirc;gi original video animation, Fushigi Y&ucirc;gi Eikoden.
