Nine regular humans from different parts of the world are abducted and transformed into cyborgs with astounding powers for the purpose of being used as weapons. The nine cyborgs rebel and start to fight against their creators in the name of justice and world peace. Decades later, the nine cyborgs seem to be untouched by time, but they live in a world where "justice" has as many nuances as the number of people living on the planet. Cyborg 009 is the story of a half-Japanese juvenile delinquent, Shimamura Joe AKA "Cyborg 009." "Black Ghost," a top-secret organization bent on promoting global warfare, kidnaps Joe along with eight other unwanted members of society from the four corners of the world and turns them into cyborgs. Though the organization intends to turn the group into super-powered killing machines, it's not long before Joe and his new companions rebel against Black Ghost and make their escape with the help of an old scientist. 
 
Once Joe and friends have freed themselves, Black Ghost sends a series of other cyborgs and giant robots in hot pursuit. Using their new powers and abilities, our heroes stay one step ahead of Black Ghost and its evil machinations, but can they save the world from its diabolical scheme?

A manga adaptation of the upcoming movie, 009 Re:Cyborg.

The story begins in 2013 when skyscrapers in London, Moscow, Berlin, and New York are destroyed by simultaneous bombings. The indiscriminate terrorism by an unknown group with unknown motives sets off widespread panic throughout the world.

There was once a group of nine cyborg fighters who rescued humanity from threats, but they had disbanded to their home countries. Now the man who created them, Dr. Gilmore, has summoned and assembled them back together again. However, the 00 Number Cyborgs' former leader, a Japanese man named Joe Shimamura, is now living alone in Tokyo's Roppongi with his past memories erased.

Cyborg 009 is a story about nine experimental cyborgs (eight male and one female), which have been collected by the evil terrorist group, Black Ghost. Those nine cyborgs with the aid of a scientist turn against Black Ghost's control. Black Ghost in turn starts sending more cyborgs to destroy their first nine experimental cyborgs and causing destruction all around the world.

Episodes 1-48 aired on TV. Episodes 49-51 consist of the "GOD'S WAR" OVA. An additional recap episode aired between episodes 47 and 49.
 
The "GOD'S WAR: Prologue" bonus arc is not intended to be in continuity with the other episodes, as it was instead produced as a teaser at adapting the unwritten final chapter of the Cyborg 009 manga. TV Tokyo could not air more than 51 episodes and the first two OVA episodes were cut and merged together into one episode, leaving the final one unaired.

But they refuse to become the neo-black ghosts killing machines, and guided by Dr. Gilmore the cyborgs escape. They team up in order to fight the neo-black ghosts and injustice where ever it shows it's face.

The story will depict Joe Shimamura and the other cyborgs' struggle with the Bresudo, a group of people who possess superhuman powers and intellect, and have manipulated human history since ancient times. Their goals are unknown, and they cast a dark shadow over the world. Though few people believe in the Bresdo's existence, one American journalist named Lucie Davenport heads to Texas to contact a certain family, and she meets the cyborgs. The cyborgs themselves have been freed from their duty of protecting humanity ever since the establishment of the UN Guardian troops, and they now live quiet lives of peace.
